Clubs Twitter Account
« on: June 26, 2019, 03:23:00 PM »
Who is currently looking after the clubs Twitter account? No activity in over a year, with Adrian having some good results and members involved in other events it would be good to have a bit more activity. Happy to take it over if whoever is doing it wants to hand it over

I think it's Paul Longthorn from what I've been told.

Not everyone is on Twitter or have smartphones etc. Why not just stick to The Forum. Do we need to change?

Need to get with the times Ron  ;) Most cyclists these days have a smart phone and are using things like Strava, Instagram and Twitter to share rides and communicate. The club has nearly 600 followers on Twitter and it’s not being used! Other clubs that use the platform are growing and our numbers to me seem like they are going down.

Don’t want to open a can of worms on here but if the club wants to grow or attract new members to replace the ones that have left we need to do more.

Social media is a great tool to use.
The Instagram page is picking up users. Easiest way is for people to upload their Club run photo's and tag it with @ogmorevalleywheelers

Twitter is similar too. The Facebook page is a little different as the main facebook page is a private club page.

Let's use all available media.

We can still post on the forum but get things like rides, club 10 events, social events etc on other media, as well.

Excuse my ignorance but if a Strava route, for instance, is posted on the forum, is it easy enough for somebody to 'pick it up' and post on Twitter etc?

Get with the programme Ron!-even I am now thinking of getting a smart phone-I'm missing out on so many rides as they are arranged on What's App(whatever that is!)I think everyone who's posted on this thread is right in what they say(except perhaps me)

Sorry to be a disappointment to OVW but I do not want 600 people to know where I am at any particular time. Perhaps we should discuss these changes at a Club meeting. We also have a responsibility to some of or younger member who may not want their locations made public. Ben has mentioned that we now have 65 paid members but 232 persons or there about are able to access and read our forum, why? Try reading other clubs info?

Ron, anybody can 'read' the forum posts, you only have to 'join' the forum to be able to post.

No changes are being made! We already have a Twitter account, my question was who is running the account to give them a nudge to celebrate what people are doing, and archiving in the club, which attracts more views, and more visits to the website, which will lead to potential new members.
Nobody would no your location Ron! posting results and information about club runs and events coming up is what I'm talking about.

Im sure the question has already been answered about who can read, and have access to the forum.

Andy, you would just copy the link to twitter just as you would with the forum.

Big brother isn't watching...but seriously anyone can read the forum member or not...if someone wanted to know where you were they could turn up to physiques on Sunday morning 9am
Twitter is just another way of promoting the club
Like this
Take a look at Cardiff Ajax CC (@CardiffAjaxCC): https://twitter.com/CardiffAjaxCC?s=09

Take a look at Cardiff JIF CC (@cardiffjif): https://twitter.com/cardiffjif?s=09

Take a look at ByneaCyclingClub (@Bynea_CC): https://twitter.com/Bynea_CC?s=09

Take a look at Tondu Wheelers (@WheelersTondu): https://twitter.com/WheelersTondu?s=09

We need to find other ways to spark interest in the club that is something other than TT orientated.

I'm happy to share access to the Instagram page. I was thinking one person from each of the groups could have access. So group ride photo's can be uploaded at the coffee shop.
Steve if you're happy to have a go can you message me and I'll see how I can add you?

Andy who in the Chasers would be interested do you think?

Old person – Yep
Technophobe – Nope
I just choose not to be on Twitter, Facebook etc etc.  For me, I just don’t feel the need.

However....
I am all for the OVW to shout about the club (in a positive way, of course), and get noticed on the many and varied media that is available these days.

A potential problem I see, and please correct me if I am wrong, is that using so many different platforms for the club could lead to confusion or dilution of information.  With any of the media sites, if someone posts information on one of them, then unless you look at that particular site, you are going to miss out.  If you are in a Whatsapp group, then information sent in the group, is only available to people in that group.

I know from experience that very many new members have joined as a result of viewing the website and forum, and getting in touch that way.

If someone does take on the Twitter account, Facebook account, or whatever other accounts are out there, (to drag the club into the 21st Century!), then I guess it would be easy to direct people to a central site, ie the forum and website as a good source of overall information?  It would be a great shame for anyone to be excluded just because they don't conform to this particular aspect of modern living  ;)
