Plough & Harrow Ride - Tuesday 27 December
« on: December 24, 2016, 04:22:37 PM »
As most of you know we usually have a post Xmas social ride the day after Boxing Day, and the same is planned for this year. The aim is to have a gentle leg stretch around the Vale (probably the usual mid-week route) before having a pie and a pint at the Plough and Harrow in Monknash and rolling home via the Coast or Death Valley depending on how much pie, mash and beer you've supped beforehand. The start time and location is 10 am from Physiques car park, the distance around 35 miles (option to extend). By leaving at 10 am we should get to the pub early enough to get a table but not too early to have to hang around. The weather forecast is currently really good for Tuesday, so you might not even need to clean your bikes afterwards. ;D!!

Hope to see you on Tuesday, have a great Xmas.

Mark

Hi Tony,

I've no definite number but around 10 is the usual amount. You can't pre-book tables but if Louise nabs a big table that would be great. Hopefully we should be there before it opens anyway.

Since Mal has suggested it I'll troll down to Troes as well but I think given the calibre of those out I'll be there about 5 past!

we had a really good turn-out for today's post Xmas Plough & Harrow social ride, with 13 Oggies crossing the start line for a ride around the Vale. The sun was shining (mostly) throughout the ride and although it was brass monkey weather to start with, it soon warmed up to a balmy 2 degrees and the lanes were largely free of ice. We passed numerous other riders, including quite a few other clubs out on the road, particularly on Watery Lane where we were passed by scores of riders participating in the Pontyclun Flyers Xmas Sportive. As we approached Monknash and the Plough and Harrow the pace picked up a tad, no doubt due to the smell of mulled cider hitting our nostrils and we arrived almost 20 minutes before the official opening time. However, hat's off to the very welcoming landlady who ushered us straight in to the Snug Bar, with it's freshly lit log fire for a few ciders washed down by ham, eggs and chips (or is it the other way round) and a bit of social banter.

After a quick(ish) lunch and a slow pint or two of Fiery Fox cider we re-grouped outside the pub for a leisurely jaunt around the Coast and home, well that was the plan! However, fortified by the Fiery Fox and fueled by the ham, eggs, chips etc, we picked up the pace for the final leg stretch back to Ewenny.  an enjoyable ride and thankfully both ice and puncture free. Out today were:

Mark Cook

Tom
Roy R
Tony
Terry
Steve (the Winter Soldier) Chapman
Nige
