we had a really good turn-out for today's post Xmas Plough & Harrow social ride, with 13 Oggies crossing the start line for a ride around the Vale. The sun was shining (mostly) throughout the ride and although it was brass monkey weather to start with, it soon warmed up to a balmy 2 degrees and the lanes were largely free of ice. We passed numerous other riders, including quite a few other clubs out on the road, particularly on Watery Lane where we were passed by scores of riders participating in the Pontyclun Flyers Xmas Sportive. As we approached Monknash and the Plough and Harrow the pace picked up a tad, no doubt due to the smell of mulled cider hitting our nostrils and we arrived almost 20 minutes before the official opening time. However, hat's off to the very welcoming landlady who ushered us straight in to the Snug Bar, with it's freshly lit log fire for a few ciders washed down by ham, eggs and chips (or is it the other way round) and a bit of social banter.
After a quick(ish) lunch and a slow pint or two of Fiery Fox cider we re-grouped outside the pub for a leisurely jaunt around the Coast and home, well that was the plan! However, fortified by the Fiery Fox and fueled by the ham, eggs, chips etc, we picked up the pace for the final leg stretch back to Ewenny. an enjoyable ride and thankfully both ice and puncture free.
