kudos to the winner who made a break with 60km left to go!

Shouldn't the "winner" of this non-competitive ride, clearly treating it as a race, have entered the road race a little later in the day though...especially being a sponsored rider? Not that he was doing any harm. Don't they have events on the continent where the race and open event are pretty much as one? I reckon a typical 3rd cat road race would outturn a slightly higher ave speed than the best velothon sportive time. Haven't checked but guessing the professionals averaged well over 25mph.

23.5mph I think for the sportive...still suggests given 60km solo that he'd have been comfortable in the race....his ave HR of just 148bpm would suggest likewise.

Hey guys - not too bad a result in the team standings !!

I checked last year and OVW finished 30th team (not 20th as I thought from memory) and so a good improvement. But, Paul's great ride is not part of the result ... if his ride was included the team would have been 7th if my quick maths is good (the total team time would have been around 20hrs 48 mins).

So found someone's GoPro video on YouTube....

http://youtu.be/urYx59RFVZw

He goes past an Oggie at about 11mins 50, then rides with Paul for a bit around 14 minutes in, then Harpo is with him into Cardiff and over the finishing line....watch on to see who takes the sprint on the line? Place your bets now 😉

Excellent video and good music to go with it.

Some heart in my mouth moments watching the riders on wet roads with pot hoes and drain covers.

Good to see the oggies on channel 4 this morning (Velothon Wales), it's available on catch up if you missed it.
