saddle sores
« on: June 06, 2015, 09:41:26 AM »
Of the infected widespread type...lots of advice on how to prevent them. But any tips on how to get rid of them when they occur, asap. Ideally without stopping riding. Been to docs last wednesday, he reckoned will settle but of course he probably naively assumed I would stop riding until back to normal. Only other cyclists understand that isn't realistic! So I have germolene, sudacream, but not convinced either help in long run and even wondering if they hinder the healing process (for similar reasons that a plaster does - restricting airflow!) How on earth do people manage to cycle round the world and things like that!?! Painkillers, penecilin, other?

These may seem odd suggestions, but apparently work.

Preparation H or Vagisil (yes, I know you are a boy  ;))

Both have numbing effects, so ease the pain.  Prep H apparently shrinks sores and Vagisil may prevent infection.

Apply one or the other (not sure I would recommend both) and leave for 5 mins, then apply normal chamois cream.

Make sure you are wearing fresh shorts each time you ride.

Good luck

Sudacrem is a bit astringent. Not for the nether regions IMO..
Fucidin H (prescription only) to be used sparingly works for me..

Ta Steve, not only some new things to try but as a bonus a good excuse to get Ruth to go and buy them for me!

Think the 2 H suggestions sound best after a quick google, as definately inflammation. I actually have Fucidin cream from one of the kids Steven, but its not of the H variety. May still help against the infection.
