2015 RELIABLITY RIDES
« on: December 13, 2014, 10:36:23 PM »
Proposed dates and routes are as follows:-

RR1   Sunday 8th February           http://connect.garmin.com/course/8667241   Finish at Hannah's diner  THIS IS THE AMENDED ROUTE
RR2   Sunday 22nd February         http://connect.garmin.com/course/5527980  Finish at Ewenny cafe
RR3   Sunday 1st March                 http://connect.garmin.com/course/5322488  Finish at Costa Cowbridge

The routes seemed to work out OK last year so Mark and I have decided to stick with them. Full information on the Relaibity Rides and how they work can be found on the main website under 'On Your Bike'.
The above dates avoid the home Welsh games of the Six Nations and allow a free weekend before the Mallorca trip in case any of the rides are compromised by the weather.

I am also happy to create courses that are suitable for the 25ers, what sort of time and distance?

25 miles in 2 hours, (12.5mph), 30 in 2.5, (12 mph) or 40 in 3 (13.3 mph) seem obvious options. Let me know what you think

Sniffy here, up early and bored, I would welcome a shorter option for the 25er's, starting at the latest "fast Riders" time and finishing at the same watering hole, close other finishers. I will get back to you on a proposed course. Something to think of between Lemsips.

With the 25er's out yesterday I will not need a shorter course, as all are capable of the 50 in 3.5. Is it possible to switch this item from "General Discussion" to the "Club Run" category to give any new members fair warning of that weekends events. On the day I will ride at the back to pick up any stragglers, or Tom could ride "backwards" now that would be ideal. The RR2 course maybe a wheel too far for some, so I will get back to you after RR1. It is essential that riders eat and drink enough on these longer rides, any advice out there, what's your favourite nibble, sweets, Jaffa cakes, home made "porridge balls".

I was going to copy & paste the topic to Club runs but realized that would leave  two threads running and possibility of people posting on different threads, so I have emailed Teresa to ask her to move it

Rules for Reliability Ride Competition

Rules and Guidelines of the Reliability Ride Competition.

1. All routes start at the Ogmore Valley Wheelers meeting point (Physiques,Brackla)

2. You must arrive at the start 15 minutes before your selected start time and sign on with the Timekeeper.

3. On completion of the ride you must find the Timekeeper and ensure your finish time has been recorded.

4. Watches and bike computers must be covered.

5. If you are retiring early, please let someone know
.
This is not a race; the object is to complete the course in the target time, which you must decide in advance when you sign on.
All riders must be over 12 years old unless on the back of a tandem. All under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult. Any type of bicycle or tricycle may be used
providing it is roadworthy.
No time will be awarded if you are outside of the target time
(Plus / minus 10mins for the 50mile route and plus / minus 15mis for the 60mile route) and you will be disqualified if you leave the course. No allowances will
be made for mechanical failure or accident.
Remember the spirit of the event–it is intended to be a challenge, but shouldn’t be a struggle. The competition element is light-hearted and intended to be fun. Most importantly, Reliability Rides seem to work best when people work together.
Note:
This is a counting event for the Reliability Trophy, which is assessed on most events completed in closest proximity to the target time. IT MATTERS NOT WHICH DISTANCE OR TIME YOU CHOOSE TO RIDE IN. Club members are awarded a certificate for each event completed and these are presented at the Annual Dinner.

More information on routes, start times etc can be found on the website HOME PAGE ->,  ON YOUR BIKE->,  RELIABILITY RIDES

N.B. There will be an amended RR1 route posted soon

Andy

As I am still a newbie I'm not sure of the procedures for the  RR1 50 mile ride next Sunday, apart that is from the disengagement of computers and watches.  Would you please enlighten me as to

who I will need to contact for an allocated start time
what the enrolment costs are, if any
in what direction the RR1 50 miler is to be ridden i.e. clockwise or anti-clockwise
and lastly 1 lap or 2.
Thanks.

Roy2.

Turn up at Brackla to sign on at least 15 minutes before chosen start time, 8:15 if going for 3.5 hours, 8:45 if going for 3 hours.
There are no start slot, everybody sets off together and can ride as a group throughout if they choose too. (often the best way)
The route is anti-clockwise, if you open the garmin map and click on 'mile markers', top right it will show the distances, it's 2 laps to make it 50 miles
Make sure you get there in plenty of time and I'll be happy to explain any other issues

see you Sunday
