KCS Lorries Wick Road
« on: September 13, 2014, 01:04:00 PM »
I have recently started back cycling and one of my routes takes in the St Brides- Llantwit Major road. Twice in the last 4 week I have nearly been ‘Wiped-Out’ by the KCS Lorries that regularly use this road. Most recently this Wednesday. On this occasion I noted the Registration number R70 KCS. I contacted KCS (Barry) and spoke the MD Ken Sievewright. Ken said he would look into this complaint after speaking to the driver & studying the Tachograph. He went on to tell me how disappointed he was to hear about this, as KCS were only visited the day before by South Wales Police to tell them (KCS) how pleased they were with the Road Safety Awareness Scheme they had adopted. Ken told me he would get back to me with a response. 3 days later, still waiting!! Is it just me, or has anyone else had cause for concern about the way these KCS Lorries are driven along this stretch of road? Cheers....Phil Rosser

Phil
I know Joesph  my son had a few run ins with them earlier this year (May time?)as they do drive very aggressively-cant be more specific than that I am afraid  although Joe did e mail the  Company and had no  real response
They are taking ash out if the power station at Aberthaw  I think and they  had a big consultation with the  public as the route they should  take
i would have thought the  power station operator(RWE?) would  be interested in any  negative feed back if you dont get redress direct

I've been passed on a number of occasions and they have given me a wide birth to be fair. It may be down to a particular driver.

Hi Richard & Bow. Many thanks for your feedback on this issue.

I think Bow is right, that it’s probably down to one Rouge Driver.

Richard, I’m sorry to hear that Joseph had run-ins with these KCS Lorries too. It’s quite a frightening moment when these trucks pass you with no regard to your safety and at high speed with only inches to spare.

Update; Disappointed (but not surprised) that Ken Sievewright MD of KCS Transport didn’t bother to get back to me.
I contacted Clare Cameron (Vale of Glamorgan Senior Road Safety Officer) earlier this week. She was very interested to hear about my recent incident. She told me that she would contact KCS Transport and speak to them about this incident.
Shortly after my call to Clare Cameron, she called me back to let me know she had just spoken with Ken Sievewright, who told her that he had discussed the incident with all his drivers. Clare told me that she would be sending a Road Safety representative to KCS Transport to hand out Road Safety leaflets.
Clare said that it’s important to report any dangerous incidents so that action can be taken before any accidents/injuries occur.
Clare Cameron can be contacted on: 01446 704768.

well done Phil, you are right to share and take action on such an important issue...and encourage others too.

We need to look out for ourselves and each other.  You'll never know of course but your actions could well prevent a serious incident
