Autumn/Winter Track Sessions
« on: September 09, 2013, 10:54:56 AM »
All

I guess I should take a poll as to what numbers we have for a session or two at Newport Track before Christmas.

For those who have not been before, and we have a few newbies, we try to book two hours for our club only. With a coach. It is usually a weekday evening between the hours of 7.00pm and 10.00pm. Frankly, it is so difficult to get track time that we take what we can get. The cost will be about £15.00 plus bike hire at £7.00 approx.

The session is suitable for total novices over the age of 12. Men and women. You may want to bring a friend or a family member. We have a minimum of 15 places to fill and a prior booking is a commitment to pay if you cannot go otherwise the club has to pick up the bill.

The bikes are fixed wheel without brakes. You will need to bring either Look Keo cleats on your shoes or trainers (when you can use pedals with toe clips), a helmet (can be hired too) and warm clothing to sit in between sessions. Riding gear should include a long sleeve top and leg warmers if you have them just in case you come off and to keep you warm in the winter months.

I will take initial interest here on the blog as just that - initial interest. Please say if you would like to consider it and ask any questions you may have. At some point, when I think there is enough interest, I will try to book a session then ask for commitments. That will be early October I guess (I have our Time Trial to organise before that).

A few of us are accredited to ride track. A taster session such as I propose will give you a feel for it. I know one of our new members is much taken by it and may well be on the way to accreditation this month, having booked in May !

Please respond as soon as possible if you have an interest.

Hi Tim,
You can put me and Ethan down for the track sessions, I've just been doing a few drop in sessions lately and have my accreditation in October, if you struggle for spaces there are riders from other clubs that might be interested depending on cost.

Jonathan.

That's what we will do. Edric Hobbs of Mendip CC does this with his local clubs when he books in Newport and they take as many as 24 with only one coach and charge £10.00 a head.

I am pleased you are on track ! for accreditation. Perhaps you can say here how you achieved the progress you have. i.e. let everyone know how you did it so they can consider it themselves.

A few of the new members have expressed interest so, as soon as I have a moment I will try and book a session, probably now in November, and give our guys first refusal.
Cheers

Tim

Tim, any idea of what day of the week?

If it's a Friday, I may be able to entice 2 others.

Steve

Fridays have been the other dates we have had but that may be a matter of circumstance at the track booking office. I will try for 7.00 to 9.00pm with preference for a Friday.

Easter Monday 8.00pm to 10.00pm OK ?
Sorry folks this is the earliest and best date I could get. Obviously no one thought this was going to be popular !
There seems to be a good level of interest generally for a taster session like this with a coach so I hope I can count on 15 to come from the club.
so, it is Monday 21st April and you need to be at the track for 7.00pm. the cost will be about £15 per head.
I am able to cancel 2 weeks before the date and will do so unless I have collected 12 payments of £15.
Cheques payable to Ogmore Valley Wheelers please and send them to me at Brusselton, Treoes Bridgend CF35 5dl or bring them to club (cash acceptable there).
it is up to you now folks. use it or lose it.
Please ask questions here if you need advice or ring me or text on 07840 338754
if you do decide to come I can guarantee an experience you will remember !
Friends or family will be considered after the 1st April but please tell me now if you want to bring any so I can contact you if numbers are slow.
if you read this and want to come please respond straight away with your cheque.

Hi Tim,

I would be interested in signing up for this session and I should hopefully be able to make it to club night this evening to bring the cash along.

Out of interest, would it be £15 to the club and rental fee to the velodrome on the night or would it be £22 this evening and then any additional costs if the rental is above £7?

Guess I'll have to go on the hunt for some cheap Look Keo Cleats.

Hi ! Jase
it's the basic £15.00 for the session plus whatever hire you need.
There are certain to be different levels, from novices to accredited riders. All are welcome. The coach will sort you into groups and work to give everyone a good experience. Possibly making 2 or 3 groups and giving rests after warm up, in turn.
you might expect a little eyeballs out at the end of the session if you have confidence with some time making use of the bankings
I will be at club next week but not on the 21st (Mallorca)

Any ,more questions folks. if you are interested now is the time to declare this to me. If you need to speak to family and friends please do this in plenty of time because it's Easter Monday and people tend to make plans very early.
I shall be there but I doubt if I shall be riding unless Mallorca sharpens me up a bit !

Hi Tim,

Bit late (as usual) but I would like to have a go ... a 100% novice though.

I'll bring some cash on Friday if you are there or see you in the sun.

Thanks

Terry

TRACK SESSION CANCELLED

Terry and Jason. Sorry I have had no further take up so I have told the Velodrome today that we no longer want this session.

Because of the very long lead-in time to these bookings and the obvious lack of numbers interested I do not propose to book any others in future unless the club committee instruct me to do so and the club is prepared to suffer a potential loss of a few hundred pounds !

I have enquired about Taster Sessions this morning and it appears there are non at the moment because of the demand for track time. I had hoped to get you on one of these.

The taster sessions may be re-instated should track time become available and I would be happy to register your name with Newport Velodrome for this purpose. Also anyone else who may like to take this approach.

Please e-mail me your details e.g. Name, age address, land line and mobile telephone numbers so I can forward them to Site. My e-mail is raine.bruss@tiscali.co.uk

I am leaving this topic up for anyone new to the club or newly interested in track to follow what I have been trying to do.

Tim.

That is a shame, I guess if there is not a lot of interest then it's one of those things that can't be helped.

Would putting out another feeler thread during summer to gauge interest for the latter part of the year might be an option?
