The power of the mind
« on: June 19, 2014, 07:16:48 PM »
Hello everyone, we've finally managed to get a phoneline to the house (never complain about BT, they are infinitely better than France Telecom!) so I thought I'd pop by and say hello.

Here's an interesting story about a guy I coach and how much a new frame has affected his performance. The guy lives in Devon and is a regular TT rider, aero frame, pointy hat, aero wheelset etc but has just invested a lump of cash in a second hand disc and Spesh Shiv frameset from eBay. First ride out in anger and he's dropped more than a minute off his '10' pb. The surprising thing was we're not talking 30 mins to 29, he's gone from long 22 to 21.30.

He went into the event believing the frame would make him faster and it did, his old frame was a steep geometry TT frame so the difference was certainly marginal at best.

I've caught up on some of the club results since we've gone online and have to say chapeau to everyone, it's been a good season for Oggies already.

All the best et au revoir,

Chris T

Is that why riders oil their legs, to make them shiny.

Chris, welcome back to the digital age.

Interesting phrase there.

One man's "invested a lump of cash" is another wife's "WHAT?"

Hi Chris,

Hope your well Sir?

Interesting point....I can equate it to my "belly" remember when you set me up on my "Pinarello TT" and my belly stopped me dropping down on to the aero bars !!!

I knew that I had to apply "The power of the mind" to shift it,to make me go faster, guess what it worked!!! Lol.

Take Care Fella.

Mark N.

Hi Mark,

All good over here thanks. Oggies seem to be having a great season, it's good to keep an eye on the results from afar.

Hi Chris

Good to hear you can now resume your coaching ambitions properly and with internet access.

Yes, the guys are doing very well this season, for most the stars are getting brighter ! New guys coming through and those who have the wit (and dosh) to take coaching and diet advice, as well as the new shiny bits are improving most. It's the old adage, 'it's surprising how good you can get when you take things seriously'.

The trouble with most, and I use myself as an example, is that they never do and perhaps, cannot. It's always for a bit of fun/ fitness/ social. That's why we are in a club and not a team.

That's not to say that we don't have a go every year or so and that seems very natural, not to push when you have other things to think about or concentrate on.

So, for me a new TT bike for next year and, dare I even think it, a coach ! ! !

Great to have you back in touch

Tim
