West Wales Cycle League 20 mile TT 27 July
« on: June 14, 2014, 03:00:46 PM »
This is an excellent event at Cross Hands, takes about an hour to do the "undulating" 20 miles, must be the best real course in Wales. never over subscribed and a proper test. Av a go.

Not too often I agree with Ron but a big +1 in this case. This is about the only decent course in south Wales that still gets used (our wick course is also very good in fairness)

Is this one to ride on a road bike or TT?

I've done well on a TT bike but there are a couple of big and consecutive climbs near the end plus some good descents too. So it depends on your TT bike handling and climbing. There is a lovely long sweeping section for maybe10 miles that is slightly downhill that you would lose time on without aero bars. Its a really fun course and TT bike gains would be much less than on say our midweek course. kieron Davies will win it by about 30 mims anyhow so may as well just ride what you'll enjoy and accept the time for what it is!

I rode it on my TT bike and as long as you know where the tricky sections are it will benefit you. One major climb at 70% of the way round and then the last 2 miles are an uphill drag. Will suit Chris G..

This link will take you to a list of courses on the CTT site.  You are looking for the RS20
R= region, ie South Wales, S= Sporting, 20 = 20 miles - just in case anyone was wondering.

Yes the last time I rode it was pre Strava, so you may have to work it out the manual way via Teresa's link.

Head quarters are normally at Cefneithin, you then ride under the A48 to Gorlas for the start. The first 4 0r 5 miles is down to the river at llandeilo then follow the river down stream for about 10 miles to Coed Mawr then a sharp left, up hill passed the Bot Gns  under the 48 and finish just short of HQ. normally the event is packed with Bynea riders so it would be nice to have some OVW, we now have some good ladies at the club too. The course would like a slightly hilly club, run ideal for Amblers, Pacers and 25er's.
