Pacers 12 Feb
« on: February 09, 2023, 11:58:47 AM »
Yet another dip into the archives from November 2013. I have gently Komootised this through Caerphilly, so don't ride your best silk tubulars. Only 60 odd miles. Few small ups and downs. Coffee at Esquires in Caerphilly (where we went before Christmas on the day it snowed up Bedlinog).

Keeping the riff raff away. Although it's now public! GPX file updated too.

There's a whole new housing estate sprung up in Pontprennau, since this route was planned.

Have been there since and seem to recall it was reasonbly easy to navigate through  ;D

Just the elite Pacers out this week, me and Paul. Mark was definitely there in Brackla then accidently tagged on to the Amblers.

For once copy pasting an Andy route worked well. Nice smooth climb up to Castle Coch, then descending some windy roads and a tour of the Cardiff suburbs before being spat out into a string of interesting lanes around Caerphilly. Cofee at an inexpicably busy Esquires before letting Komoot take over the navigating for a few miles of bike paths. The Pacers laugh in the face of bike path closed signs, right up until the 8 foot barriers. One lot might just have been scalable, but a quick recon showed another lot 20 yards later and retreat seemed sensible. Ended up back in the Vale from St Fagans sort of area up to Llanhary, partly trying to keep up with a couple of sprightly gravel riders. Enjoyable ride, I thought.

Reliability rides next week so no Pacer specific run. I'm trying to keep up with Dave on an Audax on Saturday so I'll be with the ambliest of amblers if I do make it on Sunday.
