« on: August 23, 2019, 09:14:39 PM »
Making the most of the weather this weekend so i propose an 8am start for the ride below. Slightly better forecast down west and little wind so should be a good day. Cpt Harpo on gravel duties this weekend!

7 of us set off from Brackla a bit earlier with the temperature nice at this point. The pace out to Neath was fairly fast, considering the long journey ahead probably not the best idea! Mr Madeley diverted at Neath (just before the first climb!!) in order to keep his average speed high. The route took us up to Rhos, dropping down into Pontardawe. Not long after Mark discovered his cassette had worked loose and not able to repair it he had to bail unfortunately.  The black mountain then awaited us, sweltering conditions on this climb with still muggy air. Chapman and Harpo sailing ahead as usual. A chance to cool down on the descent which didn't last long as we turned over the bridge and were met with a long draggy lumpy climb. The rewards were a stunning view of Penyfan, seeing Harpo bond with a sheep dog and a great descent. Loads of people camping along the mountain roads and kids playing in the cool mountain streams. Lovely roads up there but our first and only coffee stop at Craig yr Nos was long overdue at around 65 miles. Good steady pace home from here with all of us working together with just a few stops for Nigel's slow puncture. A tough one with just over 100 miles and 6000ft of climbing.

Out today Harpo, Steve C, Reece, Nigel, Mark, Stephen M and myself
