Amblers ride 16th September
« on: September 11, 2018, 03:41:16 PM »
Plenty of choices for some nice ambling in the sunny weather. My usual little caveat's apply. If there's any new riders who may not be confident with any of these routes they will be changed to accomodate. We will try and wait for anyone as usual. If you can think of a different ride you'd like to try let me know and we can try that too.

Short Sharp Hills 42 miles - https://www.strava.com/routes/13055747

Ewenny, Colwinston, Llysworny, Llanblethian, St Hilary, Llancarfan, Penmark, Porthkerry Park (coffee here), Rhoose, Aberthaw, Gileston, St Athan, Llantwit, Wick Road to Death Valley then home.

Bryn via Fountains Road 42 miles - https://www.strava.com/routes/10646234

Coity, Pen-y-Cae, Fountains Road, Waun y Gilfach, Maesteg, Bryn, Taibach, Margam, Porthcawl (Coffee here - Broomwagon or Piccolo), Mount Pleasant, Cross over A48 and back via Llangewydd and Court Coleman.

Caerphilly - The long ride - 47 miles https://www.strava.com/routes/15421609

Pencoed, Brynna, Llanharan, Llantrisant, Ton-teg, Caerphilly (Coffee here), Whitchurch, Llandaff, St Fagans, Pendoylan, Tredodridge, Welsh St Donats, City and the Midweek route back

Porthcawl Via Fountains Lane 35 miles - https://www.strava.com/routes/11443793

Coity, Pen-y-cae, Fountains Lane, Pyle, Kenfig, Porthcawl (Broomwagon or Piccolo bar for coffee), Mount Pleasant, Llangewydd, Laleston, Ewenny, Lampha, Colwinston, Troes and home

Barry Island 42 miles - https://www.strava.com/routes/12473382

Tuesday route until the Aubrey Arms. Then along Green Dragon lane. Llancarfan, past Cardiff airport, Porthkerry park, Barry Island (coffee here) Porthkerry Park, Rhoose, East Aberthaw, St Athan, St Mary Church A48 to Troes turn off then home.

Enough of a choice I hope and descriptive enough for everyone. Anyone from Llantwit Major or St Athan I'll be at my usual place (see the picture below) at 8.05 to ride over to Brackla so you're welcome to join me.

I think all routes are going to kill me!

My vote this week Porthcawl if the weather isn't great, Barry Island if its sunny

Can you tell I'm picking the easier routes first  :o though I guess we'll ride them all over the next few weeks

Just 4 today who didn't want to take on the 5 valleys. So we did one and a beach. We took in the beautiful but windy sights of a grey dreary porthcawl. It looked like Manchester by sea today. Riding today was Me, Nick R, Benevs and Graham. Lots of chatting while we rode. Hit a headwind on the way past the golfcourse into Porthcawl. Decided that the end of the month we should all dress like Elvis and ride into Porthcawl like that. Probably won't happen though not sure they do diamante white skinsuits with flares and massive lapels.

We got hit by the rain just after Mount unPleasant hill. But it didn't last too long.
