Chasers 9 September
« on: September 08, 2018, 10:23:09 AM »
I'll post a route later for tomorrow. Hopefully the rain has cleared by 9. There is a strong westerly so we'll head out west somewhere.

Here's the route

https://www.strava.com/routes/15374581

Out to Pencoed and back over the Common to Bryncethin - Llangeinor - Bettws - Shwt - Maesteg - Nantyfyllon - Cymmer - down the Afan Valley to Pontrhydyfen - Cimla - Neath - Briton Ferry - Harbour Way and direct route home on the A48 hopefully with a strong tailwind.
90.84km and 1,129m of climbing, choice of coffee stop in Costa in Neath at 48km or Café Remos on Aberavon seafront at 57km

7 of us out today,
Me
Nick
Chris Reed
Dan
Mark Jones
Roy 2
Will

Followed the route as planned for the majority of the ride. Windy conditions as expected but stayed dry. Rode well as a group and there strong turns on the front from Chris, fresh form his exploits in France, and from Mark ... and from Nick on the downhill sections. Everyone enjoyed the climb through Natyfyllon to Caerau, not one we do too often. But it was too much for Nick who then dodged Cimla to take the direct route to Cafe Remos and a big cooked breakfast, accompanied by Chris. The rest of us headed up to Cimla from Pontrhydyfen and we then regrouped at Remos for the coffee stop. The usual smash fest home along harbour way with the wind on our backs. Deviation from the planed route at the end heading up to Kenfig Hill from Pyle and along the lanes to Laleston.

Very enjoyable ride with good company. Thanks all. Just a reminder that I won't be around next Sunday.

Powered by Strongbow this morning, the climb out of Maesteg was horrendous and I didn't fancy putting myself through the same pain up Cimla 🙈 Despite breaking cycling etiquette, that full English sorted me right out 👍
