Wasp 2019

Date of Sunday 21st July 2019 is now penciled into the Welsh Cycling system.

There's a long way to go because there's currently no course available; those roadworks won't be finished until 'late summer' 2019 so whatever we do it won't run down the B4270 down Darren Hill but is unlikely to be far away from the Cowbridge area.

scratch that.

Latest update is that the only currently unlisted course that I've been told will definitely get approval is the old Gateway to the Beacons course, based in the Dan-yr-Ogof area and using some of the climbs from the 5 Valleys route (Crai, Defynnog, Coelbren). So with deadline of 02/11/2018 coming up that will be the backstop plan to make sure the race can happen in 2019. It's a pretty easy course to sign and marshal so would be a big reduction in costs, and has loads of hills to make a nice race. Starting to turn things over in my mind for how it could work. Google reckons it's only about the same travel time from Bridgend as to our 25TT HQ so it wouldn't be a disaster as a one-off thing.

At the same time I've thrown a bunch of other ideas at the WCU guys to see if anywhere else can be judged feasible in time, including one at Parc Slip, one near Tonyrefail, and a few others. But that's out of my hands - the Empire Games circuit at Southerndown has already been declined unfortunately. Any genius ideas for circuits roughly between 10-30km with as few junctions/lights and somewhere safe for a finish (preferably uphill) would be gratefully received!

Looks like we're heading this way by a process of elimination. It's quite hilly.
