RR3 route
« on: February 22, 2018, 12:33:27 PM »
RR3 goes through Boverton (Llantwit Major) where I understand the road is closed. According to Vale roadworks website its due to be closed until Feb 28th.
I'd be grateful if anybody in the know could post an update on the situation.
I won't post an amended route until I know for sure whether it re-opens or not

Thanks

Andy

Actually I can check on my way home tonight. I just realised where you were talking about. I've ridden through there every night this week too DOH!

Where have you been Andy, they have been constructing the Severn tunnel for months and when we go passed we just go on the pavement. As you approach from Llantwit just mount the pavement on he left and go around the “hole”. A very brief ride on the pavement for 10 meters? Then back on route, we have been using this trick for the passed year on Tom’s Tuesday ride.

Through Llantwit to the 10 TT turn and down the by pass, can’t be much out.

Otherwise past Cafe Velo and on to the rugby club roundabout then left past  railway station to Llanmaes Road.

I'll wait and see if the road opens on time and post a final update next Thursday.

Had a look today. It’s a 30 second walk. You could make it a rule for RR3.

Sounds fair enough.

Chat in the morning and make a decision?

After discussing with Steven and ‘riding’ past the roadworks on sunday, I think we can stick with the original route. As the RR3 is a reliability ride and not a race the small amount of time lost passing the roadworks in a safe manner will not be an issue.
It’s an easier option than changing the route which always causes issues!
I will ask Dave (timer on the day) to remind everybody of their responsibility to take care and be aware of and give way to pedestrians when passing the roadworks.
