John Edwards
« on: January 26, 2018, 09:33:57 PM »
I’m sure most of you will now have heard the tragic news that John took his own life yesterday. John was a second claim member of the club and a regular on Pacers rides as well as chaingang. We will send some flowers to Louise on behalf of the club and try to keep you informed as to the funeral arrangements.  We all have many good memories of John. Feel free to post them on this thread if you would like to.

Sad news. He will be missed on the club runs where he always did an excellent job of getting us organised.

Very sad news. John will be missed by many of us, always a guiding hand and a good sense of humour during our rides. His family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace.

John always had a massive commitment to cycling. He had a really promising career cut short by a hip injury which persisted despite surgery.  He then spend some time away from the sport before returning a few years ago. I always felt he would be your friend for life and would always look out for you.  For me, this often meant pacing me back to a bunch but although he was often clearly better than the rest, his objective was getting us all round the route together.

Goodbye 'John the Engine'. You will be missed.

So very sad about this. On my last ride with him we were off the back (a rare place for John!) on the road from Onllwyn to Glynneath, both waxing lyrical about the fantastic view (that's why we were off the back  ;)), and saying this was what cycling was all about. Strong, generous, supportive, self-effacing. His poor family.

Still can't, and don't want to believe it. it's been an absolute pleasure to ride with John! You always knew it was going to be a fast ride if John was out, and you knew the banter along the way was going to spur you on, and make you try harder. Always happy to give advice and you would always listen because he knew what he was talking about. Thoughts are with his family and friends R.I.P John

I'm not sure if I met John or not. But it's very sad news to hear and my thoughts are with his family.

This is so sad. John was such a guiding hand for every body. When I was thinking about having a go at racing last year I went down to Maindy one week to see what it was all about. I was chatting to John about how I'd love to give it a go but wasn't good enough. He told me how fun it was and that if you get dropped nobody really bats an eyelid, just come back the week after and give it another go, you'll soon be fighting for positions. After Johns pep talk I came back the following week to give it a try. You will be missed Big John, much love to your family

Based on what I've read. Can I suggest that next week in memory of John we have one group ride. It'll be awesome to see a sea of yellow for him.

Such desperately sad news, his poor family. He was one of the best an inspiration to so many.

What a guy!!  My heart went up a couple of beats when I turned up at Physique knowing we were in for a really tough ride. The banter would start as soon as we clocked each other, gonna miss him whistling various tunes behind me when I was on the the front going up an incline in Zone 5 and then gliding past me , I could just about manage a swear word as he past. Not much talking when he was on the front but endorphin's were flowing concentrating on holding the wheel in front!
My head s in the shed at the moment ,thinking I have lost a good friend and  will never ride with him again :'(
RIP John

Just can't believe we mid-weekers won't be going into Café Velo and finding John holding court-then giving us a start and catching us on the way back.Very sad news indeed.
