Amblers ride 28th January
« on: January 22, 2018, 03:33:36 PM »
I will be out again this Sunday. Weather is looking ok at the moment.

The riders out on the last ride went well over Bwlch. I enjoyed it too. So I think maybe more hills again. So I'll give kind of the same options as last time.

The Bwlch -37 miles from Treorchy side coffee stop in Treorchy.

The Bryn - 34 miles Coffee at Margam park

https://www.strava.com/routes/10646234

Caerphilly Mountain - 42 miles - Coffee maybe in Caerphilly before we climb. N.B. I haven't ridden the roads here (apart from Caerphilly mountain) but the Chasers/Pacers have so they are useable. But if we go for this option could people upload the route to their Garmin/Phone/Wahoo/Generic GPS device?

A flat route for the possibility of newbies and/or bad weather. Vale route in reverse with a coffee stop at Dyffryn Gardens - MMM Tiffin!!

As always I reserve the right to change the route. Newbies are welcome and the route will change if there is any new riders. Don't be put off by the distance or the elevation. We will ALWAYS wait for the slowest rider. There will ALWAYS be someone riding with you if you are struggling.

Ben we cannot lower the standard of the coffee, only Treorchy is up to standard for an Ambler ride and definitely no paper or other throw away cups. Never eat cakes, so cannot comment on the “tiffin”. Hope to be out, have you got a contact in the weather department, not Derick is it?

Does that mean you want to do the Bwlch again Ron?

What about a RR1 practice, not the whole route, just so riders new to this format are confident of the route. I know there is usually a practice the week before, but that is weather dependent. Who’s out this Sunday?

I've been hit with the Lurgy. I'm hoping to be out Sunday but it won't be for a massive ride. RR1 sounds ok to me. I can pull off at Llantwit and it gives me a gentle 30ish miles.

I’m back after 3 weeks off so it will be RR1 for me probably going round coast  on second lap to shorten it to about 40 miles

Chasers are doing a recce of RR1 which including the ride back from Hannah's Diner will end up about 60 miles (get out clause after the 1st lap at 37ish miles). Anyone who's legs feel good or has been thinking about a jump up are very welcome to join us, safe in the knowledge that the Amblers will be along to sweep you up very shortly (can confirm Amblers intentions on Sunday morning). I promise I'm not headhunting/poaching Ben...just a good opportunity if anyone wants to give it a go 😀

Good for me Nick. In the case of me at the moment. The Amblers will be along to sweep any struggling chasers and I'll be along to sweep up any struggling tortoise's Lol

I'll be looking to push some extra mileage. Not sure about the pace of the chasers but we'll see.

I aim to set off after the Chasers and do one circuit with a cuppa in Ewenny then ride a little further, perhaps take Ben home, or just around the coast. Please check out the maps of the various RR courses and don’t go down the dipping bridge! Check the start times as these vary with each RR and time standard, also allow time to sign on and to hide that Rolex!

Not the best conditions for a RR 1 practice, we all got as far as Llantwit where Ben jumped ship, by arrangement. Ade led the way to Cross inn where Sarah and I cut back to Bridgend through  Colwinston. Nick and Carrie were heading home from Aberthin, which leaves Ade out there somewhere. Wind seemed to pick up blowing Sarah about a bit too much.

Thanks for the write up Ron. It was a good ride despite the weather.
