Power meter advice needed
« on: January 14, 2018, 09:53:20 PM »
I'm seeking some power for my TT bike (and my TT legs).
I'm running a Shiv with Vision Trimax and SPD's.
Confused.com about options and compatibility and aware I may need to change my set-up but I'd really welcome any advice from those that use power or those who know about the kit.

I'm running a powertap rear hub. Which I love. But the freebie is a little soft. I do wonder if I should maybe have gone for cranks or pedals. Depends how much you want to spend and what information you want to get.

Pedals are probably easiest option, as won’t have to change set up, except possibly cleats.

Thanks both - issues of bottoming-out pedals, reliability of readings and durability (sensors batteries) between Garmin and Powertap - any views on that choice?

No issue bottoming out pedals and these days not much to chose between reliability and readings.

take a look at dcrainmaker.com its the 'goto' website for technical cycling stuff

Many thanks Andy - looking at all this I think Assioma with rechargeable batteries are for me - "power to the people!"

Good choice, I have the original favero and they are fine apart from a few issues with installing when you move from bike to bike.

The assioma overcomes that problem, they just install like a normal pedal!

I have a set of Garmin pedals and they work just fine, changing batteries is simple. Swapping them between bikes is simple too. You will have to get some look cleats tho. New version have done away with the pods too. Looking back I think I would have preferred to get a turbo with power meter on it instead of pedals. I haven’t found much use for power when doing TT’s or racing. Races are too hectic to pay much attention to your power and the few TT’s I’ve done I found it off putting as I was trying to put consistent power down on a rolling course. Could be my lack of expertise that is letting me down tho  ;D
