10 riders out for a hilly winter ride. Grey and cold leaving Brackla but dry with forecast for the sun to pop its head out later.
Made our way out to Coity but soon had to stop as Terry took a tumble on the roundabout, not sure if it was white line or a flattened can in the road but he went down very suddenly. Fortunately all was well apart from bumps and bruises.
Passed over the common and through Bryncethin to the climb over Glynogwr where everyone settled into their own pace and climbing comfortably. Quick descent then the climb to Gilfach Goch, unfortunately nearing the top of he climb Mark’s rear mech sheared and caught in his spokes so it was a case of getting a lift home. Hope you didn’t have to wait in the cold too long.
Next climb was new to a few riders, Penrhiwfer but was no trouble and by now a everybody was warmed up ready for the man climb if he day. Made out war to Pen-y-Graig then across the valley to Trealaw and up the Rhondda Fach to Ferndale where a short descent left us at the bottom of the Blaenllechau climb up to Llanwonno. A great climb with views down the valley and some challenging gradients, again a first for many out today. Fast ride through the forest and on to Pontypridd for a well earned coffee stop.
Steady ride home from Pontypridd up Tonteg hill and via Llanharan
