Amblers ride 22nd October
« on: October 17, 2017, 11:27:58 AM »
Just the one option this week. A nice pootle. The Chasers said that the Cafe at St. Fagans was really nice. They even had posh toilets according to Mark. So here's my proposed route.

If it's as forecast-windy but dry-I'll see you in the morning Ben-Chasers going to Swansea which isn't a ride I much like

For our very windy Amblers ride we followed the designated route. Myself, Roy2, Mal, Tom, Graham and Ade we the brave few. Roy2 and me arrived just at 9am thanks to a puncture at Colwinston. But we left on time with the wind over the Tuesday midweek ride. Up and over Watery lane. Then down to Pendoylan and through Peterstone super Ely and St. Fagans. It was a little early for coffee so we just had a comfort break before heading back to Llantwit via Tredodridge and past Warren mill farm. Mal parted company and went solo home. Then we went along through Llantrithyd and up the short steep hill to Llanmaes. Where we passed an Otter that had sadly been run over. But we stopped first at Cafe Velo which was full. Tom left us here. So the remaining riders went to Coast cafe instead where I had a nice hot chocolate and went home. The wind wasn't too bad for the most part on the way home. Well sheltered even though Tom said he would have preferred riding up Pendoylan hill instead of the uppy downy route we went.

Lots of cyclists out and about including Ron going the other way towards City. Great ride though despite being cold. Why is it I had Merino socks and Gore-Tex lined winter boots but still got cold feet?

Thanks Ben-nice ride.I'm not surprised you're getting so fit when on your commute to avoid the climb to Sycamore Cross entails riding almost to Llantrisant !!

I did try going straight ahead by St Fagans cricket club. It's very steep and I got lost :-). But ended up in Llantrisant.
