this has been on my to do list for a while and finally on Sunday 4.30am I completed my first everesting.
everesting is where you pick a hill ride up and down it the same way until you reach a height of 8848m within 24 hours. once you start you have to stay on that hill (
http://www.everesting.cc/the-rules/)
there are loads of resources to help plan your ride to work out how many reps on the strava segment are needed.
my previous attempt was on the devils elbow, which has since been everested. once someone has done the everest then that hill is theirs on the leader board and you need to find another hill
I picked this hill
www.strava.com/segments/7515400 Pwllcarn terrace Blaengarw
then using this website
https://everesting.io/it will give you a rough idea of distance, laps and calories needed for the ride
distance 93.9miles
laps 325.3 (lap distance 0.3miles with a gradient of 11.7%)
my start on Saturday was delayed by me having to fit a new rear gear cable

. not put off by this I rocked up at Pwllcarn terrace for 10.30am stashed my food and water at the bottom of the hill, which would be enough for a few hours until more supplies were brought up by my girlfriend.
the hours ticked away and provided the local residents something to talk about and wonder why is this nutter going up and down so many times. after a few hours they really thought I lost the plot and few asked what was I training for.
1st break came at about 4hrs where I needed more water and food. in total I took about 4 breaks. consumed 6 bottles of water, 5 energy gels , 1 portion of tuna pasta, 3 custard tarts, 20 fig biscuits, 4 bananas 3 cans of coke.
half way through swapped my bike and changed my clothes. the change of bike was due to the disc brake pads had worn right down the metal.
once I get past 6000m everything just seemed to slow down the laps times slowed and I just kept the same pace of 2.50 per each lap.
at this point it was getting on for midnight where I thought some of the locals might find me too noisy going up and down the hill.
this was when I saw the meteor shower, thought I was seeing things when I saw the first one.
To take my mind off things I was constantly doing the maths to work out the time when I would eventually finish. the reason it was taking longer was the turning circle at the top and bottom were adding on extra miles.
between 1am and 2am there were people coming back from their night out drinking. one of them stopped me at the top I was glad of a breather where of course he asked what the hell am I doing and couldn't believe that I wasn't even tired and still going up and down.
I was nearly there 21 laps to go. due to the way the garmin works with the pressure sensor it can record lower elevation I did 3 more laps to take me over the total.
finishing stats were
elevation 9022m
distance 120.4miles 333 laps
total time 17hrs 45mins
calories 10,736
once completed the ride gets uploaded to veloviewer where it gets verified by the Hells500 club.
it gets placed onto the hall of fame website and you become a member of the Hells500 and get to wear the exclusive grey strip kit.
http://www.everesting.cc/hall-of-fame/ Sunday was spent with my feet up

and avoiding stairs
I haven't started to think about what to do next on the bike I'm open to ideas.
