Pacers Club Run ~ Sunday 13th August
« on: August 08, 2017, 07:44:12 AM »
It would be nice to get some good miles over the next few Sundays before we get in to Autumn, with a few of the regulars away and some of us suffering from the start or end of the lurgy I thought it best to skip any big climbs for this Sunday and hopefully go for a steady pace.

The long range forecast looks good (so far) so I thought it might be nice to head to Rhossili (hopefully we'll get there this time) for some nice views and a coffee;

There's always the option to skip Rhossili and head to the Mumbles instead, this would shave 10 miles or so off the total mileage.

Fingers crossed the weather will be Ok for the next few weeks and I hope to ride out to the north, north east (perhaps Talybont-on-Usk/Brecon and back over the Devil's Elbow) so we'll avoid heading west and across Port Talbot for a little while...

So, not a great start to the morning for the 25ers or Chasers with very low numbers (with a potential new member there this morning) and unfortunately no routes posted on the forum.... but a great turn out for the pacers.

We set off en masse on the advertised route where a group of 10 riders formed;

Jason T,
Harpo,
Steve C,
Nige,
Reece,
James,
Lee,
Richard,
Carl,
Paul (a friend of Reece)

We set a pretty good pace from the get go and formed a pace line heading out over harbour way, we worked much better than last week but need to look at sorting the surges out when coming to the front, if we can keep this going then we should start working very well together.

The usual lumps out to the gower (Sketty and Morriston) gave the legs a bit of a workout before hitting gowerton, the pace was pretty good here even over the undulating roads but this started to take its toll especially on the last kickers up to Rhossili where we had a cracking view while enjoying our refreshments.

We set off for black pill where the last of the undulating roads cycled at the pacers pace started to slow one or two riders down, really well done to Richard for lasting and sticking in there, hopefully you can still feel your legs  :)

The group then started to split up around fabian way, I believe Lee and Richard were going to ease off the pace and head back together but Nige and James helped them back, well, that's what I hope. There appeared to be 50 or so horse drawn carts heading down fabian way holding up traffic, hopefully they weren't gypsies and bonked the boys over the head and have them for slave labour.

We then headed back to Bridgend as a group which saw Reece, Carl and Paul peel off with Harpo and Steve giving a tow (thanks) out to Pencoed where I could feel the energy rapidly draining from my legs... with the bonk starting to hit me as I approached bryncae my emergency gel helped me limp home.

Some big turns on the front today especially from Steve, hopefully everyone made it back Ok.

Yes I stayed back to help the chasers, Lee and Rich stopped off for food (well done for hanging on so long) then me and James carried on. Stayed with James most of the way until he told me to push on going up A48 up to Stormy. Good ride today thanks Jason for the route and thanks all for the company. Nice to see plenty of Club kit on show today.

Yes despite the pain in my legs I did eventually make it back - via McDonalds in Baglan.
Lee and myself toiled through Port Talbot before Lee peeled off to complete his century for the day on his new bike.
Great day out and worth the pain just to see the view
