An interesting read.

This is why it's OK to go out and get your butt kicked every Sunday, with the Pacers.

That's a good article, from my experience last year I did hardly any long rides and mostly trained with a turbo trainer (1 hour sessions a day) and although I didn't win any races I felt I could hold my own in most 3rd cat races. I know Neil used a more targeted approach to me using Training Peaks to work a plan out for specific races which seemed to work really well for him too. I think when you start looking at the de fonce 3 day stage race you can't get away with doing a short sharp blast of training because you're body needs to adapt to doing hard efforts back to back. I was glad to have chain gang 6pm tuesday and track sessions on Wednesday 7am to get used to this if nothing more than to give you some confidence going into it.

Like anything _ choose a goal and work up to it. Train most on your weaker points. If you are racing 70 miles train 70 miles and be sure to do the intensity too. None of it happens without the dedication and _ for endurance sports _ that means discomfort and pain management. Time on the bike on the road.
If you want it ! ! ! ! !
Been there and done it but my pain threshold is much lower at 70 _ and I do not want it enough now. I am not sure if I want that lost mojo anymore. Perhaps enough for a few 10's this season ? January is a desperate month for motivation !
I know ! I will pretend I am going to Majorca and need to get fit enough to get up the Tremontanas and enjoy a pizza and on The Square in Pollenca afterwards. I will look for speed later.
