Roller Race Cup. Competition Friday 28th February 2014
« on: December 16, 2013, 01:08:22 PM »
Yes, we have a cup now !

The two names on it are mine and Coach Chris Tasker who won in 2013 with a time of 1 min- 12.9 seconds. I reckon 1 min-12 secs would be 50 kph from a standing start  over 1 kilometer on the Competition Rollers.

This is a knockout competition with the gears limited (for safety reasons) to 80 inches. This is e.g. 39x13 = 79.4"; 42x14 = 79.7"; 48x16 = 79.7"; 52x18 = 76.8" or 53x18 = 78.2".

So it's time to plan your training campaign. Sort out the gears and pump up the tyres. You will need to get up to 120-130 revs of leg speed cadence to compete with Chris.

I will give it a go if the leg holds up. I know there are others willing to give it a crack.

I will get the rollers into the club room so we can see how we are progressing soon.

Final tip. Do not allow anyone to switch off the garage light when you are in full flow ! ! !

The rollers are now in the club house, with the clock. All ready for Friday.

Please be there prompt at 8.00pm if you are having a go. Firstly you will need to sign on then warm up before the action starts at 8.30. Any spectator might set up the rollers and clock, please give us a hand and come along to cheer on the competitors.

As far as I know there are no women competing so there is not a prize but I would be happy to provide one if two or more tell me in advance they are competing, and actually do.

As last year I will provide a bottle of wine (NOT Champagne this year -boo) for the winner. The trophy will be presented at the Annual Dinner in November.

We will decide on the way the event is to run when we have all the riders registered but it is likely that seeding will take place by each rider first competing a 1 kilometer TT against the clock. In the knockout competition each rider will compete against others with one ride each but the final pair will ride best of 3.

So, bring along the cow bells and your best shouting voices to encourage the efforts being made. Speeds of up to 50kph will be reached on 0.4 metre wide rollers. Riders may be held by 'seconds' and these are not limited in number but -watch your fingers !

Riders are advised to sort out their gears before arriving. They will be checked and 80'' may not be exceeded at any time. They should also bring their warm-up rollers if they can, and I suggest, a change of clothing and a towel.

See you there !

Hi Tim,

Talking on the reliability ride last sunday, Chris G, Mark R and myself were planning on participating.

However weather permitting I may get chance to ride home from Bluestone (that day) and in which case I'll settle for watching those 2 battle it out with the other contenders like yourself, Chris T and Andy H etc

I think there will be plenty of competitors and it should be a great night.

Well done to all those who rode the rollers tonight, it was a very good competition won by a very fluid pedalling Mark Rosser.

Well done Mark - riding at 34mph on 39 x 11 (?) was impressive.  He also wins the tricks section for riding no handed whilst signing on.  What about these?

If you are tempted it is not that difficult, after all if I can stay upright on rollers anyone can!

Great ride Mark. If you watched the track team at the Colombian worlds on Sunday you will have noted the time for the 1 kilometer TT was 1 minute. Your time was 1.07 ! OK you were on rollers with no aerodynamic issues, apart from spoke resistance, but it puts your great ride in to perspective. perhaps your objective to go under the minute next year will prepare you for the Wales Track team? Go for it !
Many thanks to Norman, Steven and all the other helpers. Enjoy the Cava Mark.
