Today's tandem ride
« on: November 23, 2013, 02:32:38 PM »
Today I fulfilled a long stated intention to take Keith out on his tandem. After bringing my own pedals and adjusting the saddle height we were off.  Keith is a very forgiving stoker and once we had our routine organised ( which foot to unclip, when to freewheel, who to signal!) it was great fun.  The easiest analogy is to say it's like driving your car with caravan attached - you steer instead of lean and you need to let it do it's own thing a bit. You can crack along on the flat. Hills are very slow but I picked up some Strava PB's on the descents ( yes, I know it's cheating!).  We did 26 miles ( 40mph downhill) which included a full Welsh breakfast at Hannah's diner.

I'll do it again when I can and I know Keith would be delighted if others could take him out as well....

Sounds a totally different experience !!!

I`d be happy to take Keith out but would need a practise run first !!!

Cheers,

Mark.

V. pleasant couple of hours out on the tandem with Keith today, burning off last nights dinner and beer.

29 miles around Ogmore and Porthcawl, with coffee stop on the sea front. Lack of communication at a pedestrian crossing almost led to an embarrassing moment but otherwise great fun. Not sure about accuracy of the garmin with max speed of 61 mph but decent average of 16.8mph
