Girl d'Italia Night. Friday 20th May
« on: May 10, 2016, 03:25:53 PM »
There will be more than a week to go until the end of the Girl on the 20th, but that is not a reason not to celebrate the first of the three Grand Tours. By the 20th there should be some shape to the General Classification so we may have a Sweepstake for the winner on the night. Please volunteer if you want to give this a go. I have never organised one myself, so someone who has might give it a go.

There is the usual format for food and drink. Bring your own and share it with others. Obviously with an Italian theme.

I have a Pantani DVD to show unless anyone has a different/better one, or Italian music to play. Either CD or DVD. We can play either.

PLUS there is a competition. BEST PICTURE ON A PLATE made in cooked spaghetti !!!
This is one for the kids or the kids in us! There will be TWO prizes. One for a club member, the other for under 16's.
The judging panel will be chosen on the night
RULES
Definition:
Plate; any size up to dinner plate and of any material
Spaghetti; NOT any other pasta and it must have been cooked before being assembled
Colouring; any colouring may be used as well as glue or other material providing it does not exceed 10% of the whole
3D; it may be a pile of spaghetti but it must look like a picture and not a 3D model
Quality; it need not be edible
Subject; points will be awarded for subjects relating to either cycling or Italy
Title: please give your picture a title. Write this on a piece of paper with your artists name
Judging; to avoid undue influence on the judges each entry must have a false name for the artist. e.g. Michelangelo.
Presentation; a table will be set aside for the entries to be displayed from 6.30pm until the judging takes place after the Committee Meeting at 8.15pm. The food and drink may be consumed, at the discretion of Chairman Steven, during the Committee Meeting . If not, then immediately afterwards whilst the judging is taking place.

SO : make sure you get your spaghetti in with your shopping this weekend and have a practice with the kids, or whoever else you may mess about with with spaghetti ! Get out the paint's and have a play.

Some ideas to play with -------------
The Italian flag is green red and white
Famous Italian cyclists include Pantani: Coppi: Bartali
Italian cycling brands include Bianchi: Campagnolo: Pinarello
Italian painters include Leonardo da Vinci: Tintoretto: Raphael: Titian: Canaletto: Botticelli and Michelangelo
Subjects could include bikes: clothing: flags: copies of famous paintings or portraits of famous cyclists

I hope you will all have a go. This time the Club will be providing the two prizes which may also have an Italian theme

I have already had a go. It's not as easy as you think. My spaghetti developed kinks !

See you there

Tim
PS. I am not certain other will be a Committee Meeting therefore please bring your entries for 8.00pm we will start the party then

More trouble with spaghetti ! and glue. I am now trying flour !

Any volunteers to run a sweepstake on the winner of the Giro ? A full list of riders should be on a website somewhere to download. Come on all you guys with hi-tech kit, surely one of you can do this easily !

Sainsbury is near the clubhouse and they usually have good Italian food to take away on the Deli counter. I will bring non alcoholic grape juice and have a pint in The Six Bells after.

See you there.

Is this an opportunity for members to get some of their carbo loading in for The Velathon ?

Great competition with spaghetti pictures of a high standard. 4 entries which I know from experience took a lot of research and practice. It even made Teresa look up how the tubes on her bike were arranged to get it right !
Charlotte (daughter of Keith Barratt) won with a very sparkly bike and Italian flag with all the right colours in the right order. She was therefore to winner of a very nice bottle of Prosecco.
Mary produced some homemade fairy cakes with red, white and green icing and other chocolate, and fruit pasties completed the food goodies.
Bearing in mind that seemingly half the Club members are doing the Velothon on Sunday and probably went to bed early, it was a very good evening. I even found an Italian Opera CD for background atmosphere !
At the committee meeting we decided to do something similar for the Tour de France and The Vuelta.
Thanks everyone, especially those who entered into the spirit of the evening. Norman wore his Bianchi retro Jersey !
