On a slightly different note. For many years we have a tradition at the club dinner of cross toasting. We noticed last year that quite a few did not know what was going on. This is a tradition that goes on at many cycling dinners, and it is one that we would like to continue with. So we thought we'd put up a few pointers. The cross toasting is opened by the club president aka Norman James, immediately after the 1st course is finished. He knocks the table to gain people's attention, raises his glass and makes a toast to someone in the room. This may be congratulatory or amusing. Something that person has "achieved" throughout the season. That person also stands up and raises his glass in response. Then the floor is open to all and sundry to congratulate or embarrass anyone they choose. The banter can be very amusing for all guests. You'll soon get the gist of it on the night. So start getting yourselves armed with some witty repertoire. I think we fall short of actually downright insulting anyone. So play nice. Cross toasting is then closed after the last course by toasting the Queen. Good luck and have fun. :)

Also take note that dress code is smart i.e no jeans or T. shirts. See you on the night.

I have negotiated an upgrade from the Bear Hotel so tomorrow we will be in the St Quentin's suite. I felt that with the increased numbers, it would be a tight squeeze in the Ballroom. The room can be found at the back of the hotel next to the road and their car park. The room is larger and has a bar and a PA system although I will resist the urge to do Karaoke!
