I know that not all members are Cycling UK (was CTC) members, and views on road/cycle lane development will vary, but FYI:

Hi Nige,
Always interested in 'big' bikes to play with, incl 'vintage' ones - do you have any more details?
Nick

PS you could pass my email on to Tony if it helps

Thanks Ben,
It was good to get out again.

And yes, it was ALL my fault really. It's always my fault... ;)

No apologies needed Andy; We'd said at the start that we'd see how we got on, and maybe I could have called ahead at St. Brides, but made the decision to wait and after that we wouldn't have pulled back to the group. Everyone enjoyed a good ride, so no problem.

Just 3 riders for the Amblers today: Nick R, Chris H and myself. We'd already decided to head East so we tagged onto the Chasers as they headed to Dinas. The Chasers-Amblers elastic began to stretch as we approached St. Brides, so regrouped as a trio and continued at an easier pace. We opted to aim for Barry, having missed the opportunity to get to Dinas in time. Due respects were paid at the seafront at the appropriate hour, and coffees were savoured after the Last Post had concluded. It was bright and sunny, but a  chill NE wind was blowing so we were glad to set off again. We made decent progress until Chris disappeared for a while in Wick; a puncture spoiling the maiden ride on his new bike. Once sorted, we continued via Death Valley and then parted at the garden centre.

i think we should aim to stop for a while for 11 o'clock, whether that's at a specific location or wherever we happen to be.

I'll try to join you if I can. Given the state of the smaller Vale lanes lately, and today's rain, I'd suggest sticking to bigger roads and/or higher ground!

There were 7 starters for today's ride; Carrie H, Hannah, Geoff, Nick R, Nick H and two guest riders, David and Lee.

We set out to do mainly familiar lanes via Treoes, City etc. By the time we reached Llanharry, David had realised his close-ratio gearing didn't suit the ups and downs of the Vale, so at Ystradowen we pointed him in the direction of Cowbridge for an early coffee. Being familiar with the coast road he then intended to tackle the undulations and light headwind on his own to get home. The rest carried on up Watery Lane, across the A48 then via the airport road to Cafe Velo. "Two Cups" Lee, having drunk Hannah's hot chocolate in one, said his coffee wasn't right and had to reorder! We then headed West, Geoff turning off after a few more miles, Hannah carried down "Death Valley" off to get home on time, along with Lee who, despite carrying a full pack (with satellite phone, parachute and a couple of bricks?), wanted to spend time in the gym, no doubt to work off the extra chocolate. The remainder headed home via the coast road.

Good weather, nice company -Back next week perhaps?, though not Hannah who is going to be a bit busy for the next few years! (Though we hope she might be able to ride with us again in the future) - Good Luck Hannah!
