« on: December 26, 2014, 10:33:39 AM »
The proposed route is:

Brackla - Coychurch - Pencoed - Common - Heol-Y-Cyw - Brynmenyn - Bettws- Shwt - Maesteg - Bryn - Taibach - A48 - Water Street - Porthcawl - 3 Steps Hill - Merthyr Mawr Cutting - Ewenny - Post Office Hill - Colwinston - Treoes - Brackla

It's 50+ miles with a coffee stop in Porthcawl. See you there!

Mark

Hi Mark,

Was planning to join you but do not fancy the descent from Maesteg - it was -3c last night at 800 feet and those two drops could still be icy by the time you are there. Think I will stay lower this morning.

Regards and see you soon.

Due to the icy conditions we made the sensible decision to stay low this morning. We started off with the Pacers, taking the Coast Road around Ogmore and Southerndown before regrouping at St Brides where we formed an Amblers group consisting of Richard, Chris Reed, Roy 1 and myself. Andy Samuels had started off with the group but was clearly suffering from the onset of flu and wisely turned back at St Brides. The rest of us headed off through Wick, Llantwit, St Athan and Rhoose before a coffee stop at the newly refurbished Forest Cafe in Porthkerry Park, complete with decking and sea views.

We then rode home via Wenvoe, St Fagans, Miskin, Talbot Green, Bryncae, Coychurch and back to Brackla. Everybody took a turn on the front and with the milder than forecast conditions (or was it just the magical qualities of the Oggie Winter Jacket) and the Winter sunshine it turned out to be a really good ride.   I'm still itching to climb a few of the bigger bumps in the area but we can wait until the conditions are right.
