Club Gravel Ride 18/08/24

Meet at Brackla as usual for 9am. If you can't be bothered to come to Brackla will probably get to the black path in Wildmill for 9.10am.

Social ride, decide route once we know who's riding. At least one coffee stop!

Four riders out today – Carl, Scott, Nige and myself. Carl on his brand-new sparkling gravel bike ready for his first adventure! Bearing that in mind we selected a relatively flat route ;) Nice easy pace up the cycle path to Nantymoel before the gravel climb up the Bwlch where Carl’s gears started jumping and dropping of the big ring, this problem continued for most of the ride as soon as the gradient picked up. It was mentioned that the bike shop probably set the bike up for riding on the flat knowing Carl normally avoids any big climbs!

After the climb we descended into Treorchy for refreshments at Greggs before climbing back up the Bwlch from Cwmparc. Then across the main road and onto the ‘Tour d’Wind Farm’ for the drop into Pont-Y-Rhyl and back to Wildmill on the cycle path.

A great time had by all, with Carl suggesting more climbing would be nice once his gears were fixed!

Carl has a rather strange way of expressing his approval on steep technical climbs. He slips into French! Bless him.
