Amblers club run - 30th March 2014
« on: March 29, 2014, 03:57:14 PM »
I know Paul is not out this sunday and I've assumed someone would post about tomorrow's Amblers ride but nothing yet so thought to start it off.

There are several that I know of planning to ride and the forecast looks okay and so we could get a good number out ... although Mum's day lunches etc might squeeze it a bit.

Not bothered about where we go although will suggest something if needed.

See you tomorrow 9.00 BST

Terry

Sounds to me like you guys should be joining the pacers, how about a joint ride, reassembling at the top of the climbs, any 'frisky' pacers can come back down and ride back up again.

Excellent coffee stop in Aberdare!!

I'll be there tomorrow. Been up the Bwlch this morning but don't mind going up there again tomorrow! Happy to go with the flow.

I didn't post anything as I didn't realise Paul was away and didn't want to tread on his toes!I was thinking more in terms of round the Vale as I know a few people want to get back earlyish-let's see who's there and decide then=could always go with Ron and extend that ride a bit

I think a joint ride would be good for those that have the time tomorrow... and perhaps for those newer riders who fancy a ride or two with the pacers to see what it's all about.

I'm up for some suffering - if the pacers are up for some waiting ;-)

I'd like to do the climbs but don't want to be holding anyone up. Hopefully there will be sufficient Ambers wanting to do the same route as the Pacers for there to be a second group. Im not sure the combined group works well due to the difference in ability. Otherwise you are expecting all the Pacers to be very patient which isn't necessarily reasonable. Hope that makes sense!

:) Good point Richard. No sense changing a successful setup! There is a already a degree of compromise within groups of fairly similar abilities.

So how do the Amblers know when Spring has arrived? No it's not the daffodils or the lambs in the fields but the return of Steve Chapman on a Sunday morning.Presumably he migrates to warmer climes in the Winter but he was back this morning as feisty as ever!
Being still in bossy Mallorca mode I propsed a Vale ride for those who needed an early return and persuaded Ron to change his plan so that we could start off with the 25's-we rode together as far as Craig Penlline before splitting up.11 of us went on a magical mystery tour of the Vale-Steve,Andy,Carrie,Tony,Adam(welcome back!)Richard(Coychurch),Chris,Laurence, myself plus 2 more who'll I'll no doubt remember later this afternoon-apologies,please remind me!We carried on to Aberthin,Watery Lane,Welsh St D.,Pendoylan,Peterston, then up the BIG hill to St Nicholas,Duffryn Lane,Llancarfan St Athan,Boverton and a coffee stop at Café Velo(where a couple of riders asked about joining the clun).Back to St Brides and round the coast gave us almost exactly 50 miles-as promised! Thanks to everyone for your company and trust when it might have seemed we were lost in the middle of nowhere! See you all next week!

Thanks to the pacers for sharing their ride with us today. It worked today Rob, possibly as there were only a few pacers, but we also kept talking all the way round and did give the faster riders the option to ride on on a few occasions. Alan, Steve, Andy, Jason from the regular pacers plus me Wayne, Neil, Haydn,Terry and Jonathan. 102 km for me and 1,618m of climbing including the Bwlch, Rhigos and Maerdy mountain roads. Great ride. Thanks all.
