Why have TTs gone out of fashion?
« on: May 11, 2019, 08:26:02 PM »
Next Tuesdays 10 mile TT on the Neath course has only attracted 15 entries, several years ago this would have attracted 10 Oggie’s especially when the Magic Dragon was running. One good point, The would be extra carrot cake for the riders, would the riders then put on weight and not enter next year

I have been thinking about this and don’t really have any answers! It could be a number of factors: I don’t think it helps that there is a perception that you need specific bike kit to take part. I think the way people find out about events has changed and possibly calling the events a club event could put some people off as they are entering an event as an outsider. Having spoken to a couple of club members it seems that e-racing on zwift is gaining popularity too. I think the success of park runs is partly due to the informal feel of the event and of course relatively cheap to get started. I have thought that doing a series TT’s that encourage clubs to ride each other’s courses could be an interesting idea maybe a different club every couple of weeks is invited and you make it a bit more of an event. I guess this was the point of the dragon series if so bring it back! There is obviously a contingent of Strava KOM chasers out there who have competitive urges maybe it’s finding a way to appeal to them. Maybe we could look at how we promote the Club 10 on the website/social media. I think our club 10 is well organised and welcoming event, and a great way to get a taste of bike racing.

I think Ron was talking about 'Open' events but the points you make are valid to that as well as the club events.

I'm going to post in 'coaching' about having a try out session for anybody who's not tried TTs and may want to give it a go. May attract some o0ld members who haven't raced a TT or new  members to the club.
