Chasers 12 May 2019
« on: May 09, 2019, 08:26:49 PM »
Weather looking good Sunday - warm sunny and only a light breeze. So proposed route is the Bwlch Rhigos Neath Valley loop taking advantage of the good conditions.

Out through Coity to Bryncethin and Blackmill and up the Ogmore Valley and over the Bwlch, down to Treorchy and Treherbert and over the Rhigos to Glynneath. Down the Neath Valley with a coffee stop in McDonalds at the Cwmgwrach roundabout or with the option of a later stop in Neath. Then Neath Briton Ferry Harbour Way Pyle and home on the A48. Around 60 miles in total. Option to peel off after the climb up the Bwlch and go down the Afan Valley and home for those wanting a shorter route.

Hope to see you all Sunday.

Proposed variation to route. Instead of going down the Neath valley we'll come home via Aberdare and Pontypridd with a coffee stop in Bradley's in Aberdare. Should be similar distance at around 60 miles.

Great conditions for cycling today albeit a little blustery at times. 8 chasers set out from the start, me, Chris, Terry, Tony, Lee, Mark, Karl and Dan. We rode out with the pacers as far as Bryncethin and then headed up the Ogmore Valley through Wyndham and over the Bwlch, the group breaking up on the climb and regrouping at the top. We then descended to Treorchy where Mark needed to stop for a puncture. After trying to get some air in his tyres for a while it transpired his tubeless readies were just that and not just tubeless, so out came the inner tube, and then issues with the through axle arose. At this point Chris had decided to push on as he was under a time pressure. The rest of us then decided to revert to plan A and head for the Neath Valley after climbing the Rhigos with Dan leading the way over the climb. We worked well as group down the Neath Valley until Mark had more problems with his front tyre not keeping pressure and baled out around Resolven. The rest of us pressed for home with good turns on the front from Dan and Terry. Due to the time delays en route we chose to forego the traditional coffee stop riding straight for home, Dan peeled off at Pyle and the rest of us rode over Stormy and back to Bridgend. Around 63 miles for me today and a bit of climbing.
Andy is not available for the next couple of weekends so I'll post the rides while he is absent. Hope to see you all out again next Sunday.
