Amblers Ride 30th September
« on: September 25, 2018, 12:47:47 PM »
My first attempt at creating a route since Ben is away, go easy  ;D

https://www.strava.com/routes/15617795
Backla, Coity, Brynmenyn, Aberkenfig, Parc Slip, Margam, Port talbot, Margam, Pyle, Laleston, Lap of Broadlands and home

38 Miles, few small climbs out of Bridgend, and a few back in, otherwise pretty flat

Weather, at the moment, looking good

Coffee on the front in Aberavon

Only 1 choice?  A flat ride? ONLY 38 miles? Harumph. What's the world coming to?

Looks a good route. Nice one Ben and thanks.

After a chilly start to the morning, 4 of us left Brackla

Me
Nick R
Nick H
and Carrie

Nick H set the early pace up over coity and around the top of Brynmenyn, I took to the front though Aberkenfig and up parc slip, where there was an unplanned spot of rain.  Luckily that stopped quickly and we made our way down the A48 and past Margam.  We made our way though Port Talbot and down to Aberavon beech where we stopped for coffee at Remo's (I think it was called).  We decided it was warm enough to sit outside, as most of the seats inside were taken up by Pencoed Tri Club on their group ride.

As we were leaving, Nick H took a quick group photo for Pencoed club and we hitched a wheel from their group half way back down Harbour Way.  We agreed they were going at 'too lesiurely a pace' for us (not something I say very often) and decided to press on.  Nick R immediately took to the front setting a tough pace down the rest of the duals and up past Margam with me struggling but succesfully holding onto his wheel but with me hitting my highest heart rate of the day!

Getting back to Pyle we took the scentic route though the lanes back to Laleston where Nick and Carrie peeled off, Nick R peeled off at broadlands and we headed home.

Good ride today, felt like less hills than normal, 45.5 miles for me with an average pace of 16.1mph

I wish I'd joined you Ben instead of riding in to the Cardiff City Stadium!

Thanks Ben (Evs) for the Ride and taking the lead (and headwind) most of the way out. No one was dropped or lost either!

Yes Tom, Port Talbot steel works probably had a cheerier look about it look than Cardiff City Stadium this weekend
