Advice on hard bike boxes please.
« on: September 07, 2017, 08:17:20 AM »
After 10 years of loyal service, my soft bike case is falling to pieces and so I will invest in a hard case.  Can I have some advice on what to buy please?  I'm particularly interested in;

How much space for other stuff such as shoes and helmet etc?
To what extent do I need to strip the bike down to get it in?
How robust is it?
How easy is it to transport?  (wheels, handles etc)
What does it cost?
Anything else I should know?

Many thanks!

I've got a bike box allan. I know there a few out there that are similar.

Things to remove- Seat post, wheels, stem (keeping handlebar on) 30-40 mins to pack
Loads of room inside box to put kit, helmet, tools, shoes etc. I plan on taking just carry on bag next year to majorca.
It has a anti crush bar in the centre so as good as it gets i think for protection
On wheels so its easy to pull along
Cost around £ 550. Cheers.

Have a chat with Dave as he has recently bought a bike box

I looked at all the variations last year and chose the Velovault. Main reason is the central support that goes through the frame and spokes of one wheel is made in two parts. This is great when closing the box as there is no chance of hitting anything other than the support pole. Other types use one long pole which makes it a bit harder . The overall box is a very similar design as the Bike box Allen. If you want to see it I can bring it to the club on Friday.
