8 started out on today's Pacers ride:- Allan, Jason, TS Steve, Chris G, Paul, Dave W, Mark and me.
I won't bore you with who peeled off where but it was a well disciplined ride with some strong climbing from the usual suspects, while Mark (bad back and Strongbowitis) and Chris G (runner's legs) kept me company at the back. Cafe stop at Hapus ice cream parlour in Machen.
71 miles 5000ft of ascent.

Good ride today and indeed it was a pretty disciplined ride, that'll go out the window when Harpo returns  ;)

Good run today... I think Jason's bike needs testing for an electric power source or the vegan diet is kicking in :o

Old hat. For pros maybe. Time crunched cyclists can't aford to waste valuable time riding within themselves. Every ride should be a suffer fest of sorts. Suffer - rest - suffer - rest etc etc and you get better. Plod - plod - plod some more etc and you stay the same. Unfortunately I can't find the link to the extensive empirical research and evidence behind my suffer fest theory right now ;)

Nice to see 'rest' on the session plan, very underrated!

I was half joking Andy but rest definitely important. To be honest in my view there is no point trying to improve until at least Feb, its more about ticking over and trying not to get ill...the suffer fest approach over winter months will probably get you ill as quick as it gets you fit!

I'll be having to do my fair share of suffering over the winter as my 'A' race next year is in March. I've even joined the gym so I can do some treadmill run sessions and try and avoid the worst of the winter colds and lurgies!
Treadmill running is even more of a hardship than the turbo but 'needs must'.
