Sunday 20th August - Amblers and Chasers
« on: August 14, 2017, 02:40:16 PM »
Hi all.
Andy has said he's away the next couple of weeks. So I thought it maybe worth having a joint Ambler/Chaser ride. If anyone has any objections then let me know.

The the ride I had planned would be Pencoed - Llanharan - Talbot Green - Miskin - Hensol - Clawdd-coch - Peterston-super-Ely - Coffee at Dyffryn Gardens - Llancarfan (watch for the Ford) - Out of Llancarfan towards Penmark round the back of Penmark -  Fonmon - East Aberthaw - Gileston - St Athan- Llanmaes - Siginstone - Colwinston then Troes and back home to Brackla.

43 miles altogether and a few bumps but nothing major.

I'm hoping to be there this Sunday!
Does that mean going up Penmark hill again?  I'd class that as a big 'bump', can't say i enjoyed my first time up it ha!

Myself, Ron, Nick H, Paul L, Mal, Jonathon, Ben and Adrian left Physiques in some niceish weather despite what the weather man said. Was a nice bump ride. Tootling along the route until we got to Clwdadd-coch when instead of going to Duffryn gardens we went to Welsh St Donats then Llancarfan. As anyone who has ridden through Llancarfan it doesn't matter how you plan to leave Llancarfan you have to ride up a big hill. We went for the steepest one I could find. It's called "Monster Mountain" on Strava. Adrian said it went upto about 20% then fell off the scale. It's a case of digging deep and not letting your back wheel slip. From there as we recovered from that bump we went down past Fonmon castle and Gileston then through St Athan to stop at Cafe Velo instead of Duffryn gardens. Then after that we carried on towards Sigingstone and Lampha hill where we started to split up to go our own ways. Nick and Ron through Colwinston I carried on through Lampha, Wick and back home via St Donats and back to Llantwit.

Nice ride today, variable conditions, the green slime in the middle of the tarmac on the hill caused a little flutter, I do not get wheel spin to often these days.

The green slime on the hill wasn't as bad as the green slime in the ford Ron; glad we gave that one a miss this week  ;). Good route Ben, thanks.

Good ride Ben I think even Tom and Mark P would be hard pressed to find a cheekier little hill a few new roads for me
