Tour de France. Sweepstake. Two Competitions
« on: June 28, 2016, 01:49:12 PM »
In the absence of better qualified volunteers to do this I have devised the following competition. For a £1.00 stake you can enter this competition as many times as you like. The Club takes no fee so all the money from the entrants goes back to the winner of each.

eg. If, in the General Classification Competition, all 22 named riders names are taken that are bought out of the hat at random and one wins, then the person who was lucky enough to pick that name wins the whole £22.00. If, in addition to those 22 anyone makes a wildcard entry for £1.00, for example Geraint Thomas, Team Sky, then the pot goes up to £23.00 and so on. I will keep a record of all purchasers of riders names against the names of the purchasers. The hat will be available every Friday in Club up to and including Friday 22nd July.

Prizes will be awarded the following Friday the 29th. Only if none of the chosen riders wins will the proceeds go to club funds !!!

For the second competition, to choose the winner of the Bastille Day Stage 12 finishing at the top of Mont Ventoux, only 4 names will go into the hat, see below. This gives everyone who has a climbing favourite, or a favourite Frenchman, to take a punt on the winner.

GC Competition. These 22 names are the leaders of the 22 Teams entered as follows:
Romain Bardet , France. AG2R
Fabio Aru, Italy. Astana Kazakhstan
Tejay van Garderen, US. BMC
Sam Bennet, Ireland. Bora-Argon18 Germany
Andrew Talansky, US. Cannondale
Nacer Bouhanni, France. Cofidis
Mark Cavendish, GB. Dimension Data. South Africa
Thomas Voeckler, France. Direct Energie.
Marcel Kittle, Germany. Etixx Quick-Step. Belgium
Thibaut Pinot, France. FDJ
Pierrick Fedrigo, France. Fortuneo-Vital
John Degenkolb, Germany. Giant -Alpecin Germany
Jerome Coppel, France. IAM. Switzerland
Alexander Kristoff, Norway. Katusha. Russia
Louis Meintjes, South Africa. Lampre-Merida. Italy
Wilco Kelderman, Netherlands. LottoNL-Jumbo. Netherlands
Andre Greipel, Germany. Lotto Soudal. Belgium
Nairo Quintana, Colombia. Movistar. Spain
Michael Matthews, Australia. Orica - Greenedge
Chris Froome, GB. Team Sky
Alberto Contact, Spain. Tinkoff. Russia
Fabian Cancellation, Switzerland. Trek-Segafredo. US

Stage 12 Competition 12. Winner on Mont Ventoux on Bastille Day
Chris Froome
Nairo Quintana
Alberto Contact
Thibaut Pinot
PLUS PLENTY OF OTHER FRENCHMEN TO CHOOSE FROM !

So, let the battle begin this Saturday. 188k from Mont St Michel to Utah Beach. I may even subscribe to Sky this year !

Tim

PS see you Friday, remember I have only 22 tickets in the hat, there will be no duplicates, after that any entry will be a bit of a wild card.

That's it folks.

All the 26 names have now gone into a bag ready for your lucky dip at £ 1.00 a go.

Alternatively, if you fancy any rider other than the team leaders to win either the General Classification or the Ventoux Stage 12 you can give me that name and pay me £1.00 and I will enter it in my book for you to stand a chance to win the whole lot.

I may not be at Thursday's TT because I am on the Start sheet for the R10/17. So any Friday in club will do.

I will close the book for the Ventoux Stage 12 the evening before so get your entries in earlier for that one.

The GC  competition closes on Friday 29th, the night of the Tour de France party in the Club so come along and see if there are any names left and bring your own if there is an outsider who has not already been taken and who is coming up on the rails.

Exciting eh ! ! ! !

Sorry folks. Not to confuse you!

The Tour de France Party is as billed

THE 22nd JULY - not the 29th , that is when the GC Classification money will be presented at club

Greg van Avermaet name not  in the Sweepstake hat. With a lead of 6.36 now on GC does anyone want to pay £1.00 to enter his name now ? Sounds like a good bet to me. Of the 26 names in the hat I have now sold half so £14.00 if he wins. Better odds than the lottery ! ! !

Stage 12 is going to be interesting. There are plenty of French riders who may well want to have a crack but I have only sold 2 names Contact and Froome. I will be out Sunday morning at 9.00am with the book. Stage 12 is next Thursday so this is your last chance to have a punt. Choose your own winner for this stage. Look at the Frenchmen competing, choose your favourite, enter that name on my list and clean up ??? So far the winnings would only be £3.00 but the more that enter the bigger the winnings will be. Bring a quid, I will bring a list of riders and a pen !

Remember the final opportunity to enter the GC competition is Friday 22nd at THE TOUR DE FRANCE PARTY

The  Ventoux ! What a stage ! Full of incident but no winner in the Sweepstake so that's £4.00 to club funds.

I have 14 tickets left for GC  with Contador being one of those sold. So plenty of opportunity for a lucky dip or, even, a final personal nomination next Friday the 22nd.

See you at the party

Just to close this thread now I can tell you that there was no winner for the Stage 12 Competition and the £2.00 from the two competitors went to Club Funds.

The winner of the General Classification Competition , the guy who picked Chris Froome out of the hat was The Landeg. Yes folks, that up and coming time trialist , now in his 63rd year I think , was the lucky winner of the whole Sweepstake pot of £15.00.

Unfortunately he was not in club last Friday otherwise it would have been his round in the Six Bells after. Even more unfortunately I will not be in club for two weeks now so he will have to wait for the dosh !

Thank you all for your support. I have never done one of these before but I quite like it so look out for others , perhaps for The Vuelta d'Espana starting at the end of August
