Track Session 14 + 15 26/02/2016
« on: February 26, 2016, 07:48:15 PM »
Never made it to the second session last week, but managed to get two trips in this week. RR2 took it's toll this week, starting with a cold was a bad idea in hindsight and left me worse for wear on Monday. I decided to take a bit of a break from training and rested all week apart from my visit to the track on Wednesday and Friday. Nice to go to Newport on fresh legs for a change if a bit wheezy and snotty from my cold. Wednesday session was pretty tame in comparison to what they have been in the past managed a 34.7 for my flying 500m which I was pleased with, 10 mile group TT was slow which suited me I think it was around 23 minute mark.

Friday was much quicker. Struggled with the warm up which had two groups riding on the blue. I started with the slower group and then jumped onto the fast group, overtaking the slower group was interesting as it was a bit chaotic at times (at least for me! I think everybody else probably had a handle on the etiquette) I got gapped on two occasions as we overtook the slower group stuck behind a rider in front of me so we had to work hard to get back on the group, after catching up the second time on my own I was straight on the front and out the backdoor when I peeled off the front. All good fun though! 500m on Friday was a 34.9, I'm going to try some turbo sessions with efforts in the red to see if I can improve my time. The faster riders are getting around 31/32 seconds. I decided to smash it (within reason) on the 10 mile TT, usually I just ride as fast as the last rider in front of me but decided it was time to push on. I took 2 or 3 laps on the front each turn and pushed the pace up on each lap. We started out with a group of 8 or 9 but it reduced down to 4 quickly. I think we put a time in of 21.06 which is decent enough around 44/45kmh average. By the time we warmed down I felt like my legs had opened up a bit and could have easily stayed up there all day, next time maybe!

Sounds fun Paul, may give it a go next winter if I pack in TT, making room for a track bike. I can tell from your reports it will make me feel very old though!

I would recommend going up there of a spin if you've not tried it before. I'm glad I gave it a go this winter as it has offset riding in bad weather and using the turbo. It's good fun at the moment I'm sure I enjoy it more because I don't take a Garmin or have Strava record it, I just ride how I feel. They shout out the lap times for you so theres no need for any gadgets!
