Social Calendar Autumn 2013
« on: September 09, 2013, 11:46:13 AM »
All

Last Friday the Committee approved dates for the following;

Thursday 10th October. Roadmans Night Out; Red Fox Penllyne. 6.30 for 7.00pm if you want a meal or 8.00pm if you only want a pint. An informal celebration of the years events when retro road gear is worn, cycling posters and memorabilia displayed and the three category winners of the 'What do you think your on- Speed Competition' ie the penultimate mid-week 10, receive their prizes. These are well loved but no longer required items of cycling memorabilia donated by other members. The three winners were, Steve Landeg (ladies mountain bike); Chris Tasker (Brompton folding bike with suit and tie) and Andy Harries (ladies road bike). Please have a look in the shed now and pick something suitable for each. Family and friends of members welcome.

Friday 18th October; Six Bells Pub, Coity. The alternative club night. We cannot have the club room so we are convening in the Lounge Bar.

Friday 1st November. AGM. Not a social but note it for the calendar.

Friday 15th November. Club Bike Bits Auction. Usually a bit of fun and an opportunity to make some money out of the tat (excess kit) you have in the garage - and pick up some more at (usually) knock down prices. Clothing, bike parts and even whole bikes have changed hands. 10% of proceeds to the club.

Friday 29th November. Club Dinner. Steve Madeleys guest will join us at the Bear Hotel Cowbridge for a night of fun, food and entertainment. The feature of the night is the awarding of medals and prizes for sporting achievements of members during the year. If you have not won one then make sure you do next year ! They include Club Stirrer, Club Glutton and Gaff of the Year too, so you may not be excluded anyway without your knowledge. There is also a photographic Competition which will be judged on the night so, if you have a suitable print of a club activity bring it along. Tickets from SM

Friday 6th December. Christmas Party. In the Clubroom. A 'bring and booze event'. Everyone brings the food they would like to eat and the drink they prefer, to share it with everyone else. Yummie !  Christmas CD's also for background atmosphere and the odd decoration and balloon to make up the format. Come and say your seasons greetings to your fellow club members and bring friends and family.  Games have also been played, if you have one bring it along !

Sunday 22nd December; Holly Run. Just in time for your Christmas decorations your Club Captain will lead you around the local lanes looking for that elusive holly. Bring secateurs and a Tesco bag. There may be mince pies and a prize for the best sprig at the end of it. The kids and Mums will enjoy this but wrap up warm, the mulled wine is at the end of the ride.

Sunday 29th December. Plough and Harrow. A roaring wood fire and a pint await you for this end of year event. Wobble home with ham and chips or a curry in your tum.

Look out for more and better details of these events on the forum but note them in your diary now. Your presence is always welcome.

I am still looking for suggestions for Friday nights in club. Chris Tasker will only be about until the end of December for training and coaching advice and turbo sessions. We have a Roller Competition in mid February 2014 so get training for that and the Reliability Rides start at the end of that month. Mallorca is in March to get the 2014 season started.

Roadmans Night Out

Reminder ! Dig out those 'much loved but no longer wanted memorabilia' for the three prizes folks and I will see you there.

Good numbers are possible from the feedback I have had so far. Certainly we might expect the three prize winners. I am sure they will not mind receiving more than one prize each, even if they are little ones. I have the odd trophy or two gathering dust, a medal or two too but it could be something completely different when I look in the garage - like the chain I snapped at 25 miles in the 30 mile TT 6 years ago - yes I still have it ! and the old Mitchelin yellow tyre I blew off the rim in 1992 !

Use your imagination folks, every cyclist has a story to tell and, boy, do we get some tall ones on a Roadmans Night out.

Posters and banners are allowed on the walls too. To give atmosphere you understand !

7.00 pm for 7.30 if eating or just after 8 if its a pint and a laugh you want.

This is also perhaps the last chance to take a photo in the 'Social' class for the Photographic Competition. Trophy award at the Club Dinner !

I'll be there but only for a beer, I've been away all week and a full night out won't be very popular!

A good event again with 15 people there and all enjoying it  -- even the prize recipients !

Andy, I don't mind if you change the award label on your Dragon Paperweight, just be careful your wife doesn't see what you replace it with.

NEXT EVENT  - In the pub again next week (18th October) for our Friday club night.  It's the Six Bells just down the road from HQ, we're in the lounge from 8.00pm. I have not asked if we can take rollers or turbo's in. If anyone is keen I am sure the locals would be amused ! See you then.

REMINDER. The auction is not so far away now so get polishing that 'excess kit'. Neil has already said he has lots of entries. Mostly the stuff he bought last year.

Auction Friday 15th November.

Our favourite (and only, recent) auctioneer, Richard Tucker is available to entertain us again this year and winkle out those elusive bids from you shy lot !

Free tea and biscuits at the interval.

Auction lots to be entered on the night.

The auction starts at 8.15 pm so be there with your stuff to sell at least 15 minutes before. If you are also a potential buyer you will need at least a further 15 minutes to examine the entries you may want to acquire. Hall open at 7.30pm.

Bring lots of small change and a cheque book just in case something big takes your fancy. 10% of proceeds go to club funds.

Yes, it's the Six Bells tonight folks. 8.00pm in the Lounge. Drop in for a chat. No tea and biscuits but a half of lager and a packet of crisps should go down well !

See you there.

Tim

PS You will have noted that we do NOT have access to the Clubroom tonight
