Pacers Sunday November 30th
« on: November 27, 2014, 09:10:31 PM »
Early forecast for the weekend looking OK, so how about this route?

http://connect.garmin.com/course/5294187

Seemed to be enjoyed by most last year when the weather was awful!

See you Sunday

Is that the steep way up Maerdy or the other way?

top section still quite steep chris.
Shame as northerly wind forecast, could have been blown up the steep side fuelled by cake!

Don't want to have to walk up the steep bit with my winter bike ;) just thought I'd check.

Looks good to me. If I'm feeling lazy I'll meet you at Talbot Green - otherwise see you at Brackla. Assuming it's still 9am as it's still November (just)

May make the effort too...to get to Talbot green for 0930. I remember it being a bit damp last year. Got a bit of a chill and Andy probably had a mechanical....or was that just every other winter club run!

Not rising to the bait!

Seem to recall that it was after this ride, last year, that Steven had to mop the cafe floor as we left! Weather looks a bit more favourable tomorrow.

Hope to see you Sunday.

Looking at the route I may stroll over to join you from ponty rather than Talbot green. Hope the weather is as nice as today

Just over 16 miles to the roundabout in Treforest so should be there 10:00ish.

See you in the morning!

Cheers Andy. I'll get there a bit earlier as fancy you could be averaging upto 20mph on those flattish roads

I'll have a go at the write up this week.

Great conditions - sunny, clear, no wind to speak of and crucially no ice. Steven Madeley, Ben North, Jason Turvey, Andy Harries, Mark Rosser, Chris Goodwin and me to start with - tapped out a good tempo through Brynna to Treforest where we picked up Rob Jones to head up through Porth to Rhondda Fach. Rob and Ben set a fair pace up the valley, so by the time we hit Maerdy Mountain our  legs (...well mine for sure) were feeling it. Ben then stuck with Rob for further than most could manage, with Mark Rosser almost closing the gap to them (he'd have caught them if he hadn't been hungover  ;))Lovely views on top, and then the scary harepin descent into Aberdare - even in good conditions like today I get vertiginous. Good cafe stop in Aberdare, then Jase and Rob made sure we quickly warmed up again when we resumed when they put the hammer down (or at least a small mallet) to take us to Ponty. The it was everyone's favourite climb up the Graig to Penycoedcae - Rob J and Ben leading the way - and a glorious descent to Beddau (see Jason Turvey on the Strava leaderboard) where we split up.

Great ride as usual - really like that route. Plenty of kms for me this week - I thought I might actually finish top of the club leaderboard this week, but Terry managed to pip my by a few kms  ::). Maybe next week.....

Good ride today, the Aberdare Cafe is becoming a regular stop, always happy to see Pen-y-coedcae at the end of the ride as I'm only five minutes away from home  ;D

It is a nice descent down to Beddau, although the sun was rather bright today so a little difficult to see at times.

Excellent report Allan, coincidentally I've had a long lunch with friends and no access to the computer!

It was a rapid descent to Beddau, luckily I was following Jason's wheel and didn't need to see where we were going.

Very tired legs getting towed back to Cardiff by Rob but a fantastic day to be out on the bike.

Felt like a pretty relentless pace today...even the 1st hour I wasn't involved was so quick I almost missed the club run! Especially enjoyed the two tough climbs with Ben due to his healthy climbing attitude...riding to the limit every time; the hard but fast route to progress!

Got to make the most of days like this and get up in those hills. As Allan said, it is rare at this time of year to enjoy sunny skies and yet be able to scale the big hills without an ice risk.
