9 out on today's Amblers Ride.

Paul L
Tom
Pete
Roy
Terry
Tony
Daf
Richard Bowmer
Chris Mogg

We managed to stay dry but we had a small crash Daf collided with another wheel and ended up on the Tarmac. But no injuries. Hope this didn't put you off. Newbie Daf did really well and I expect he will make the move upto the pacers soon. The cafe was closed at St Fagans. So we gave the cafe stop a miss. The pace was very good this week. Not to fast.

I clocked up 50 miles but I know Terry was tagging some extra miles on to get his October Grand Fondo. Same time next week.

Apologies to 'Eagle-Eye' Terry for disputing that something had fallen off my bike yesterday.I think everyone on the ride knew that the 4 nuts which retain the mudguard stays had mysteriously disappeared overnight leaving the stays flapping.
What I now know is that the drilled bolts which fit over the stays and are held in place by the missing nuts can slide off the stays and fall off! They had appeared  secure!
I now need 4 drilled bolts and the nuts to avoid buying a new mudguard.Haven't yet been able to find these online, any suggestions welcome.
Alternatively of course since Terry saw at least one fall off perhaps he'd like to ride the route again to retrieve them?

Hi Wane-they re steel or similar. The stay runs from the centre of the wheel towards the mudguard-the bolts are drilled to slip over the stay ,then the bolt goes through a bracket on the mudguard and the nut secures the bolt and the mudguard in place.
Wayne, don't ask a non-technical idiot like me about sizes but the bolt slides over the stay which I'd have said is average size for a mudguard stay!
The bolts are quite small-maybe about quarter of an inch but I don't think the length is vital as they protrude through the fixing on the mudguard and don't have to fit in anywhere.
I expect Terry is our scouring the roads for them now!

what is a quarter of an inch in millimetres?  Did you pay three shillings for them?  :)

most nuts bolts etc can be bought at Riverside Hardware On the "Chaingang" route north road parallel to the railway line. you can even buy one if you want. Don't think they do BSF though Tom, maybe you can speak to some metal detector people, they are always discovering old bits and bobs.

Thanks Ron+Wayne for the helpful suggestions. As Wayne will know I've ordered 2 of the correct bolts(I need 4 but there appear to only be 2 in the UK)and reserved some in Halfords which I'm collecting/rejecting tomorrow.Hopefully will be sorted failing which I'll try your recommendation Ron!

Tom, if you take a sample, of the bolt, to Riverside, all the small bits and bobs are behind the counter. they have always allowed me to have a look for suitable item, if it needs cutting bring it around.
