FTP Testing Ground
« on: March 22, 2014, 04:01:39 PM »
I've been thinking of the best place to do an outdoor FTP test in the area and something which will be easily repeatable for retests.

Now there's Church Village Bypass which is a few minutes from my home, it would be a 4.5 Mile Loop with 319 ft elevation gain over that distance with a roundabout each end.

I've also considered the Chain Gang Loop, approx 2.5 mile loop with only a 56 ft or so elevation gain... although the chances of slowing for traffic is greater than the above it does seem somewhat tempting.

For those in the know and who perform these tests would you say that the Chain Gang Loop would be suitable for a 20/30 or even 60 minute test?

Thank You,

Jason

Chain gang loop ok but ver short circuit with lots of braking and accelerating. Also consider bryncethin common - you can turn at the rbts at pencoed and bryncethin. I find church village bypass too hilly. How about linking up the midweek wick course with death valley and the southerndown loop?

Good call on Pencoed to Bryncethin;

8.3 Mile Loop, 408 ft Elevation Gain and it would allow a decent warm up and cool down period from our area.

Anyway, you should be enjoying your last evening in the sun  :)
