1. Spend as much time as U can checking tyre - check both outside and inside, squeezing it where U find any cuts to see and remove what's within.
2. find hole(s) in tube. If can't find anything hold tube under water to cue bubbles
3. chalk by the hole(s)
3a. Deflate tube completely
4. Smear rubber solution over hole(s) and across area bigger than patch
5. Leave to dry for few mins
6. Place patch with centre as near to hole as you can
7. Press firmly on to tube for several mins
8. Leave for about 10 mins
9. Remove the clear bit carefully leaving just the rubber patch (optional)
10. Put tube back in tyre and inflate
a job to do at home not on the road and only bother with the old style black and orange patches. Instructions are always a bitvague I find on things like ensuring tube is flat before placing patch and how soon after you can inflate or whether to test inflation before replacing in tyre etc. Steps 1-10 work for me, other variations sometimes fail.
BTW - I am stuck on a train without my kobo tablet to pass time!
Any variations on the above? Its annoying to get it wrong. Step 1 particularly important and even more so before simply replacing tube out on the road. Many a rode ruined by a cheeky hidden thorn or bit of glass!
