How do you fancy a trip to Merthyr? Approx. 80 miles with 4300ft of climbing. Route attached.

Four riders out today, Vaughan, Nige, Ben and myself. We followed the posted route as best we could – lots of roadworks around Hirwaun and Merthyr! Good chain gang to Aberdare with everyone taking turns on the front.

We did take a small detour to see Pontsticill reservoir but thought better of it halfway up the steep climb! (To tell the truth I took a wrong turn and kept ignoring my Garmin telling us to make a U turn). If your up around Hirwaun don’t bother climbing over the plastic barriers and walking across the rough ground because there’s another two fences to get past! We reluctantly climbed back over the barriers and used the by-pass road  ::)

Ben had his usual flat tyre but did manage to get the CO2 canister to work this time around. Coffee stop at Greggs (Pant Industrial Est.) where I managed to get my steak-bake all over my hand again. Then onto the cycle track to take us towards Bedlinog where a wild Pony took a liking to Vaughan and blocked his way, I say he took a liking due to the fact he was displaying his rather large penis! (That's the pony not Vaughan)  :D

Nothing much to mention on the return journey apart from Nige locking the back wheel and narrowly avoiding the tractor-trailer we were tailgating.

Great fun had by all, and well done to the route organiser  ;)
