Pacers 9th May

Out today were, Dave, Rob, Paul, Reece, Mark and I. After yesterdays deluge, it would be fair to say we were overdressed for a mild and dry day. Dave took us over Pentyrch and then quiet decended on the bunch as we contemplated Ponty Golf Club. It's definitely on the lists of climbs to do before you die, just as long as you don't die doing it!  I don't know of a climb which compares with it in length and steepness. The good news is that is has been resurfaced, but sadly not the steepest part - probably because the tarmac would just slide off! Anyway, a combination of lack of strength and only a 28 sprocket forced me to walk for a while, a true Sunday morning walk of shame!

On the decent I thought I was not doing too bad as I could see Dave in front of me- turns out he had locked up on the descent and skidded into a bank!  Thankfully he was okay but had damaged his front changer, so the route was amended to take out any more hills. Our planned stop at Machen was scuppered by it being closed but Mark found a pub serving breakfasts so Sausage and Egg sandwiches in the beer garden was the order of the day.

We then went to Newport and back along the flats to Cardiff, coming across the Bay, Dinas, and home. A good day out and hopefully Dave can sort his bike out easily. It was interesting that our first comment was 'Good job he did not have his shakedry on when he fell off@!!

Enjoyable ride! Thanks all for the company. Dave was a bit more badly hurt than he let on and it turns out he’d popped his AC joint so will be confined to the turbo for a few weeks. See you all again in a few weeks.
