Amblers Ride 9th September

Weather is looking good. Low wind. Not too warm either. So two choices.

Or

So Porthkerry or the Bwlch. Bacon stops will be either Porthkerry or Treorchy.

We took the lumpy route to Porthkerry today. 5 of us altogether.
Myself
Jo
Nick R
Nick H
Tom
We went up post office hill waiting at the trig point for everyone to keep up. Jo realised that of the 4 gears she had some of them slipped. Nick R gave them a tweak and we were off again. We carried on a little further to Colwinston and Llysworny then Llanblethian. We headed towards Little Switzerland in Llandough before crossing St Athan road and towards Treguff. Treguff hill was surprisingly dry today but it still made Jo swear and curse. Unfortunately on the way down the dip the other side Jo got the first of her punctures.
5 minutes later and the first test of my new Co2 pump (How awesome are they) we were on our way again towards the next hill that made Jo swear - Penmark. All regrouped at the top we watched the bees on a large Fuscia plant and were amazed at the number of wasps, bees and hoverflys on an Ivy plant next to the Fuscia.
From there round the airport where we met a large group from Cardiff Ajax. Worried they may get to the Bacon and Cannoli before we could we upped the pace a little to Mrs Marco's at Porthkerry park. Coffee all round and a discussion on eating habbits and our diets it was back up the hill and through Rhoose. Somewhere between Rhoose and Greendragon hill Jo got the 2nd of her punctures. This time rather than a pothole like before it was a gigantic thorn. it was about 1" long and a pig to remove from the tyre. So a quick change of tube and the 2nd go of my new pump (It still has some gas in even now) we set off towards St Athan. Nick R and Jo carried on along the coast road while Tom, Myself and Nick H went through the village. We split again just after with Nick heading back to Cowbridge and Tom and me back to Llantwit.

Lovely weather and a really enjoyable, if a little lumpy, ride despite the punctures today.

Tom. The song "People should smile more" is Newton Faulkner.
