Amblers Ride 24th February
« on: February 19, 2019, 01:39:12 PM »
Sunday is looking nice and dry for now.
I've got a lovely route planned to Porthkerry for coffee. Giant Teacakes and Icecream for a mid-ride snack then :)

For those coming from Llantwit. 8am same place as always? Crossroads for Llanmaes, Eagleswell road.

On it! Cheers, Ben. Meanwhile, should I bring my membership form along, or drop it round sometime (with cheque)?

Biggest group for quite a while. 13 all together!! Myself, Nick R, Ade, Kev, Paul L, Dan B, Geoff, Jo, Tom, Hannah, new rider Eunice (sorry if I spelt that wrong) and Nick and Carrie H.
We started as a 12 and set off in some lovely sunshine on the Tuesday route. We picked Tom up just past Penllyn. From City we went through Aberthin and across to the back of Cowbridge teasing everyone with the hills to St Mary Church but detoured to Llandough instead. From there it was over to Flemingston where we got accosted by a woman and her dogs telling us to slow down as she'd nearly been run over. We didn't mention it might have something to do with walking in front of moving vehicles and carried on. Then it was on to introduce a few of the riders to the lovely Treguff hill. Slippy, muddy and 21%!! Everyone made it up even if it meant walking. But there was smiles all round either way. Down into Penmark where as I was telling Kev to take it easy round a bend we nearly got taken out by a white van man. But I think it scared him just as much as it scared us. Everyone was treated to another steep hill a little longer than Treguff this time but again everyone got up it even with a car behind us. A brief stop to look for Tom's tyre lever no luck though and we went off to the coffee stop at Porthkerry park. Tom left us here as he was short on time. Porthkerry gave us chance for a quick Photoshoot (Shame I couldn't get one with Nick and Carrie paying attention though)
After coffee we took the road back through Rhoose, St Athan and back to Llantwit. I gave Carrie a lead out along past the camp to get a QOM on Strava. We decided to split up and head our seperate ways but a few miles later we were all back together again. Myself and Geoff went up through Wick and back to Llantwit.

Great ride from everyone and some good chats too.

Excellent! Good solid ride, with some nice views and a few gentle undulations included, had a great time - thanks Ben.
