Chasers Club Run - 30th September
« on: September 28, 2018, 08:07:35 PM »
So my old man is down this weekend and he wants to tick a couple of Simon Warrens 100 greatest climbs off his list.....so I am proposing to use the chasers as his super domestiques ;-)

The two we will be doing are Bryn Du (or Maerdy Road) from Aberdare and the Rhigos from the Hirwaun side. Doesn't help for the best of loops so will mean we climb up Maerdy Roadd then descend back down into Aberdare before heading on to Hirwaun. Its alittle longer than usual, but a steady pace means the only thing you need to worry about is the pass from the misses for an hour longer :-)

Brackla-Pencoed-Llanharan-Church Village-Pontypridd-Mountain Ash-Aberdare-Maerdy Road/Bryn Du-Aberdare (again)-Hirwaun-Rhigos-Treorchy-Tonypandy-TonyrefailLllantrisant-Llanharan-Pencoed-Brackla. About 72 miles in total according to Strava, route can be accessed below.

See you then

Can't think of many better climbs, to go up, just to come back down!
Wish I was there........

5 started out this morning

Hannah

With the aim of ticking a couple of 100 greatest climbs off we headed out towards Aberdare to do the Maerdy Road/Bryn Du climb. Picked Neil Bartlett up at the roundabout between Pencoed and Llanharan and after umming and aarghing about whether he was a pacer or chaser, Chris Reed decided to ditch the Pacers and chase after us after being left with only his big ring. Out to Aberdare where we all split, Bowmer and Hannah round the Neath Valley way, Reedy turning back and the 4 remainers heading up the climb with a spritely young kid dancing on his pedals up there in front. He was out of sight pretty quickly to leave us plod up Maerdy Road. Lucky as Neil was about to chase after him to give him a dressing down for making it look too easy!!! The first bit is pretty steep but soon levels off. At the top me and my Dad decided the Rhigos could be saved for another day 🙈 Down into Ferndale, Porth and to Ponty for a coffee. At this point chatting about the club Mojacar trip it turns out my mum and dad are staying about 10 miles from there from the 26th March. Might still have time to negotiate this trip with the misses!!! Home from there. Decent ride out and another climb ticked off Cols list.

I assume Club hill climb recce next week before the actual event on the 15th!!??

See you all then

Nick
